Applications are invited for a Locally Employed Doctor (Higher) in Healthcare of Older People at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital. This post includes service requirements and training designed to support career development with educational backing. The role offers dedicated training tailored to individual learning goals, with the grade agreed upon with the Clinical Director of Healthcare of Older People. The LED will join a team of resident doctors assigned to various wards within the Department of Healthcare of Older People and Stroke Medicine. Each candidate will be supported by a designated educational supervisor. This position is ideal for individuals interested in Healthcare of Older People and Stroke Medicine.
Main Duties of the Job
A comprehensive guide to responsibilities will be provided during induction, including:
* Ensuring safe, high-standard care for all patients in Healthcare of Older People, adhering to departmental and hospital guidelines, including liaison with ED and other departments.
* Maintaining effective communication with medical colleagues, nursing staff, and allied health professionals to benefit patient care. Keeping specialty registrars and consultants informed about patient condition changes. Ensuring inpatient notes are current and tidy. Communicating patient progress to relatives.
* Performing duties as outlined in the job plan to the appropriate level of expertise.
* Being responsible for the care of older patients on the wards.
* Assisting with clinical training and supervision of junior medical staff, medical students, and allied health professionals.
* Complying with CPD and revalidation requirements of the relevant college and GMC.
* Participating in mentoring sessions with a designated clinical/educational supervisor.
* Engaging in quality improvement programs.
