Mixed Veterinary Surgeon Location: Knaresborough, North Yorkshire Salary: £40,000 – £65,000 per annum (DOE) benefits Job Type: Full-time, Permanent Overview An independently owned, RCVS-accredited mixed veterinary practice in Knaresborough is seeking an enthusiastic Mixed Veterinary Surgeon to join its experienced and supportive team. This is a true mixed role, with a varied caseload comprising approximately 75% small animal, 15% farm, and 10% equine work. This opportunity is ideal for a veterinary surgeon with 3 years’ experience, although vets with a year or so experience who are proactive, with hands-on attitude will also be considered and fully supported. The practice is an RCVS Approved Graduate Development Practice and participates in the VetGDP programme. The Role The successful candidate will be fully involved in all aspects of clinical work, managing a diverse and interesting caseload ranging from routine procedures to complex diagnostics and surgery. This is not a restricted or junior-only role—veterinary surgeons are encouraged to develop their clinical interests and pursue areas of specialism. Typical working days may include: Small animal consultations and surgery (including orthopaedics) Farm visits, including calving and herd health work Equine ambulatory work Please note: No TB testing is required. Practice & Facilities The role is based at a single, well-equipped surgery in Knaresborough, working alongside: 5 Veterinary Surgeons 4 Qualified Veterinary Nurses 8 Reception and Administrative staff Facilities include: Full in-house laboratory (haematology, biochemistry, urinalysis) Digital X-ray systems (in-practice and portable) Ultrasound with colour Doppler Video endoscopy equipment Two operating theatres (including heated table) Piped gas anaesthesia and monitoring equipment Dedicated cattle fertility ultrasound scanner Fully computerised system with remote-access laptops The practice has also recently expanded, adding new consultation and surgical spaces, as well as increased kennel capacity. Working Hours & OOH The practice provides its own out-of-hours service exclusively for its clients. 1 in 4 weekday nights 1 in 4 weekends 1 in 4 Saturday mornings Minimum of one afternoon off per week Regular long weekends (2.5–3 days) Rotas are published at least 12 months in advance, allowing for excellent forward planning and work-life balance.
