We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to support us in providing Consultant Cover for the Paediatric High Dependency Unit (PHDU) at Royal Manchester Children's Hospital. This is a full-time, 10 Programmed Activity (PA) post covering a planned period of leave for 12 months.
Applicants must have extensive experience in general medical, surgical (including neonatal), cardiac, and neurosurgical Paediatric High Dependency.
The PHDU has 15 beds and is located within the Paediatric Critical Care Directorate. It is currently staffed for 14 beds and is co-located with Paediatric Intensive Care, Paediatric Burns Unit, and Paediatric Theatres. The unit admits approximately 600 children annually.
Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (CMFT) and the University Hospital of South Manchester NHS Foundation Trust (UHSM) have merged to form Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT), creating a new and exciting phase in healthcare delivery across Greater Manchester.
The PHDU consultant on call will have overall responsibility for the advice and care of patients on the paediatric HDU. Responsibilities include delivering direct clinical care, leading ward rounds, and managing escalation/de-escalation in treatment. The role requires close liaison with other critical care and specialty consultants. The consultant will be on-site at RMCH during working hours.
