As a nurse consultant at SAIF, you will utilize your medical knowledge and critical thinking to provide guidance and education. You will collaborate with adjusters and other team members to assist in the management of workers compensation claims. You’ll work mostly remote and flexible hours in a fast-paced office environment, working both independently and as a team member. You will also play a critical role in helping injured workers receive timely, accurate benefits and in getting them back to work.

Job overview
As a nurse consultant, you’ll work with adjusters, return to work consultants, vocational coordinators, providers, managed care organizations, and others. You will review workers compensation claims, conduct utilization reviews, assist with cost containment, and provide medical training. You will use your medical expertise and breadth of experience, along with your critical thinking and research skills to ensure the best outcomes for Oregon’s workers and our policyholders.

Responsibilities
1. Analyze and interpret medical records and provide guidance and education to claims adjusters on the appropriateness of current medical treatment as it relates to a claimed injury. Make recommendations which reflect sound nursing judgement, corporate policy, managed care mandates, and the Oregon Administration Rule (OARs).
2. Participate in communications with medical providers, managed care organizations (MCOs), and other related entities to provide clarity concerning medical issues.
3. Analyze and determine medical necessity and reasonableness of requested treatments and whether they are related to the accepted condition(s).
4. Develop and deliver medical information or training to audience with varying levels of expertise and ability as it relates to claims management.
5. Maintain professional nursing license, competencies, and/or certification(s) through professional development and training.
6. Explore diverse perspectives and consistently behave sensitively toward differences in cultural norms, expectations, and ways of communicating. Work effectively with others who have different perspectives, backgrounds, and/or work styles.
Qualifications
Required
7. Current Oregon Registered Nursing license.
Recommended
8. Three years of recent nursing experience: critical care, emergency, occupational health, orthopedic, utilization management, case management, or a combination of other acute care experience.
9. Current knowledge of anatomy and physiology, and ability to educate and communicate regarding a variety of medical conditions.
10. Experience using Microsoft Office products

Compensation & Benefits
Typical hiring range: $91,507 - $107,655. The pay range for this position is annually based on a full-time schedule. Actual compensation will be determined using factors such as experience, skills, training, certifications & education.
