Job Overview
Teaching Assistant role at Belmont Secondary School, Rawtenstall, BB4 6RX. Fixed Term (Maternity Cover), 12 months from start date. Hours: 37.5 per week, Monday to Friday. Term Time Only. Salary: £20,906.25 per annum (not pro rata). Location: Belmont Secondary School, Rawtenstall, BB4 6RX. This role does not offer sponsorship. Internal note: 4-Day Working Week (4DWW) trial may apply, meaning a possible adjusted work week (one day less per week or equivalent) as part of our wellbeing initiative. The 4DWW rollout will occur within the school as staffing allows over the next year.
About The Role
We are seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and proactive Teaching Assistant to support pupils and teaching staff. You will work with individual students and small groups to promote emotional, social, and behavioral development and help create a positive learning environment. You will work under the guidance of the class teacher and Senior Leadership Team to deliver targeted support that helps every student achieve their potential.
Key Responsibilities
* Support pupils’ emotional, social, and behavioural wellbeing.
* Assist teachers in developing and implementing individual education plans.
* Provide in-class and one-to-one support for individual pupils and small groups.
* Help prepare classroom resources and materials.
* Occasionally assist in transporting pupils after school (e.g., detentions or educational visits).
* Promote positive relationships and self-esteem among pupils.
* Accompany pupils and staff on external educational visits.
* Maintain records of pupil progress, behaviour, and wellbeing within agreed frameworks.
What We’re Looking For
* A calm, caring, and patient approach to working with young people.
* Experience working with secondary-age pupils is desirable but not essential.
* Ability to build strong, positive relationships with students and staff.
* Good literacy and numeracy (ideally GCSE Grade C/4 or above in English and Maths).
* A strong team player who is also confident working independently.
* A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
