Starting Salary: Starting salary between £56,498 and £62,775 per annum dependent on skills and experience, plus excellent benefits package

Role

As a Senior Speechwriter, you’ll be passionate about crafting compelling, strategic, and high-impact speeches, briefings, and thought leadership content for the CEO and Board members. You’ll be confident working as part of a multi-disciplinary team and are accustomed to going above and beyond to deliver excellence. You’ll be skilled at translating complex policy and regulatory content into accessible and engaging messaging tailored to diverse audiences and formats.

The purpose of this role is to shape TPR's engagement with key external stakeholders, including Ministers, government departments, UK and international regulators, parliamentarians, and industry bodies. This includes responsibility for ensuring TPR's voice remains persuasive, consistent, and aligned with our regulatory and corporate objectives.

In this role you will:

* Lead the drafting of speeches, talking points, position papers, editorial articles, and high-level briefings for the CEO, Board members, and senior executives.
* Collaborate closely with colleagues in Policy, Public Affairs, Communications, and Legal to ensure content accuracy and alignment with strategic goals.
* Proactively manage major external speaking opportunities, ensuring key messages are delivered with maximum impact.
* Advise senior leaders on tone, delivery, and key messaging opportunities, often on politically or reputationally sensitive issues.
* Develop content tailored to various audiences, formats, and platforms, including live speeches, op-eds, digital communications, and international events.
* Support the wider communications strategy by ensuring speeches and high-level communications products reinforce TPR’s public positioning and regulatory objectives.
* Develop and maintain strong working relationships across TPR and with external partners, including civil servants, regulators, and policy influencers.

Responsibilities

* As a Senior Speechwriter, you will be responsible for crafting compelling, strategic, and high-impact speeches, briefings, and thought leadership content for the CEO and Board members. You will lead the drafting of speeches, talking points, position papers, editorial articles, and high-level briefings tailored to high-profile external audiences. Collaborating closely with colleagues in Policy, Public Affairs, Communications, and Legal, you will ensure content accuracy and alignment with strategic goals. You will proactively manage major external speaking opportunities, ensuring key messages are delivered with maximum impact. Additionally, you will advise senior leaders on tone, delivery, and key messaging opportunities, often on politically or reputationally sensitive issues. Your role will involve developing content tailored to various audiences, formats, and platforms, including live speeches, op-eds, digital communications, and international events. You will source compelling facts, case studies, and evidence to strengthen messages and bring TPR’s work to life for audiences. You will work under pressure and at pace when required, including drafting for urgent briefings or reactive communications needs. Building and maintaining strong working relationships across TPR and with external partners, including civil servants, regulators, and policy influencers, will be key to your success in this role
* Drive personal development in line with TPR values and objectives.

Essential and Desirable Criteria

* Proven experience in speechwriting or high-level communications for senior leaders in government, regulation, public policy, or a similarly complex environment.
* Exceptional written communication skills, with a strong grasp of tone, structure, and storytelling for different audiences and formats.
* Strong understanding of UK policy-making and political processes, with the ability to tailor content to influence external stakeholders such as Ministers, civil servants, parliamentarians, and regulators.
* Knowledge of pensions policy, financial regulation, or public policy.
* Excellent judgement, with experience advising senior stakeholders and representing their voice authentically and persuasively.
* Demonstrated ability to absorb and translate complex or technical content quickly and accurately.
* Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines without compromising quality.
* A collaborative working style and ability to build trusted relationships across functions and disciplines.
* Experience writing for or advising within a regulatory or financial services environment.
* Familiarity with the pensions landscape and wider regulatory ecosystem in the UK and internationally.
* Experience of integrating speechwriting with broader communications strategies.
* Experience supporting senior leaders in external engagements across a variety of formats (e.g. conferences, media appearances, stakeholder events).
* Understanding of audience insight and communications evaluation.
