We are looking for an enthusiastic and keen assistant psychologist to join us at Rivington Unit as part of the psychological offer to our acute psychiatric inpatient wards.
The post holder will join an evolving acute service where the provision of low‑intensity psychological interventions is a key priority. The role is suitable for someone who is strongly interested in working with people experiencing significant mental health difficulties.
We recognise the importance of promoting professional development for our staff and provide continued professional development opportunities, including close supervision by qualified psychologists, group supervision for trainees and assistants, a regular Assistant Forum and Trust‑wide CPD opportunities.
The post would suit someone with a keen interest in low‑intensity psychological interventions delivered both individually and in groups.
Key Responsibilities
* Facilitate the running of psychologically informed groups on the wards.
* Independently deliver these groups and encourage other members of the multidisciplinary team to engage in these activities.
* Ensure psychologically relevant resource material is available to the wards.
* Assist with assessments, reviews and consultations by administering self‑report measures, rating scales, neuropsychological tests and semi‑structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in clients’ care, all under supervision.
* Under clinical supervision, independently implement time‑limited psychological interventions, involving creative engagement with clients with complex relational and risk‑related needs.
* Document clinical records in accordance with Trust policy and contribute to report writing and letter writing.
* Contribute to multidisciplinary and ward meetings and liaise with family/carers, other staff and agencies.
* Assist in planning appropriate psychological interventions according to assessment.
