We’re recruiting on behalf of a leading tier-one contractor delivering clean water pipeline projects on the Northumbrian Water framework. With the AMP8 period now underway, this role offers strong long-term security and a clear pipeline of upcoming work across the region.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced SHEQ Advisor to join a collaborative and forward-thinking team, supporting major infrastructure schemes by embedding environmental best practice from tender through to delivery.
Key Responsibilities:

Implement and promote the environmental strategy across multiple infrastructure projects.

Provide expert SHEQ input during pre-construction phases, including tenders, contract awards, and early-stage planning.
*
Act as the key environmental contact throughout the project lifecycle.
*
Drive sustainability and environmental performance, supporting Net Zero goals and reporting requirements.
*
Lead investigations into environmental incidents, ensuring root cause analysis and lessons learned are shared.
*
Advise and influence site teams to adopt best practice environmental methods during delivery.
*
Promote continuous improvement through coaching and awareness sessions.
*
Liaise with statutory bodies, including the Environment Agency and Local Authorities.
*
Ensure environmental compliance under CDM regulations and relevant legislation.
*
Conduct site audits, inspections, and reviews to monitor and improve performance.
*
Assess contractor competence and identify environmental training needs.
*
Monitor and report environmental KPIs and contribute to internal data analysis.
Candidate Profile:
Essential:
*
Proven experience in a similar SHEQ role within water or utilities.
*
NEBOSH qualification (General or Construction).
*
Strong knowledge of relevant HSE legislation and management systems.
*
Full UK driving licence.
Desirable:
*
EUSR SHEA Water certification.
*
Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., IEMA, CIWEM) at incorporated or chartered level.
*
NEBOSH Environmental Certificate or similar.
*
ISO 9001 / 14001 / 45001 auditor qualifications.
*
Confident communicator with strong influencing and coaching skills.
