Role Summary
Equifind are proud to be partnering with a fast paced SME Brokerage with LME operations with an International range to it's operations in hiring a Head of Risk - a number one role for this profitable and growing Brokerage based in the City of London by St. Pauls.
The Head of Risk will be responsible for identifying, assessing, monitoring, and reporting the full spectrum of risks relevant to an institutional brokerage. The role will ensure that the firm’s risk profile remains within its stated risk appetite across Market, Credit, Liquidity, Operational, Legal, and Regulatory dimensions, while promoting a strong risk-aware culture.
Key Responsibilities - The firm have a mix of LME and non LME operations and the following risks are what the Head of Risk and senior management team aspire to rol.
Market Risk
Monitor exposure to price movements across traded instruments and client trading activity.
Review intra-day and end-of-day exposure reports, including limit utilisation and stress scenarios.
Identify concentration risks and ensure appropriate escalation.
Credit & Counterparty Risk
Perform credit due diligence on institutional clients and trading counterparties.
Maintain and review counterparty credit limits and monitor utilisation.
Assess settlement, clearing, and prime broker dependencies.
Liquidity & Funding Risk
Evaluate liquidity availability and funding sufficiency for client execution and settlement flows.
Monitor intraday liquidity usage and potential pressure points during volatile markets.
Operational Risk
Conduct risk and control assessments across trade execution, onboarding, operations, and IT processes.
Investigate incidents, near-misses, and control breaches; ensure remediation and documentation.
Support business continuity planning and resilience testing.
Regulatory & Conduct Risk
Ensure compliance with FCA regulatory requirements (particularly SYSC, ICARA/IFPR, MAR, COBS ).
Monitor trading activity for potential market abuse, inappropriate client handling, or conflict of interest issues.
Prepare risk inputs for regulatory submissions, board governance packs, and internal audit requests.
Legal Risk
Liaise with Legal on contract terms, trading agreements, NDAs, commission schedules, and brokerage agreements.
Identify risks arising from new product introductions or changes to client trading behaviour.
Support assessment of disputes, litigation exposure, and client documentation gaps.
Experience & Skills Required
Ideally 10+ years’ experience in risk management within a brokerage, bank, trading venue, or investment firm.
LME experience is essential.
Strong understanding of institutional execution workflows, clearing/settlement, and client lifecycle management.
Familiarity with relevant FCA regulatory frameworks and governance expectations.
Quantitative skills for analysing exposures; advanced Excel required; SQL/Python desirable.
Clear communication skills with ability to brief senior management and front-office stakeholders.
