The Women's and Children's Division is seeking an enthusiastic Trust Doctor (ST3 +) who wishes to pursue a career in Obstetrics & Gynaecology. The Trust is committed to supporting the post holder in developing their career within the department.
NUH Obstetrics & Gynaecology are very proud to serve this diverse local community. Our maternity services have successfully met all 10 of the essential safety standards required in the Maternity Incentive Scheme. The hospital handles approximately 5,800 births annually and deals with a wide range of gynaecological pathology.
Main duties of the job
The Trust Doctor ST3+ will have duties similar to Specialist Registrar year 3-7, working under the guidance of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Consultant and will cover:
* Acute obstetric and gynaecology cover, including ward rounds and ward cover
* Elective obstetric and gynaecology theatre, and elective antenatal and gynaecology clinics
* Maternity triage/Maternity Assessment Unit
* Independent performance of caesarean section, instrumental vaginal delivery and surgical management of miscarriage
* Attend and manage patients in the antenatal and gynaecology outpatient clinic
* Attend operating lists and manage patients post operatively under consultant guidance
* Prepare for and attend the weekly rota sent each Friday
Presence in the hospital is required for all shifts. The postholder will be assigned an educational and clinical supervisor and appraised at 4‑monthly intervals.

Qualifications – Essential
* MB BS (or equivalent)
* Registration with the GMC
* MRCOG Part 1
Qualifications – Desirable
* ATLS/ACLS/ALS/APLS
* MRCOG Part 2
Experience – Essential
* Completed pre‑registration year (or equivalent outside the UK). Able to work second on call on Labour ward
Experience – Desirable
* 1 year Registrar O&G experience with a minimum of six months UK/NHS experience
Knowledge – Essential
* Evidence of understanding and knowledge of the specialty
Knowledge – Desirable
* Evidence of interest in Obstetrics & Gynaecology (e.g. audit)
Skills – Essential
* Competent in history taking and examination skills; competent in basic life support and resuscitation skills
* Good communication skills, both oral and written; fluent in English; able to establish good working relationships with multidisciplinary team members
Other – Essential
* Willing to seek help from senior colleagues as appropriate
* Prepared to be flexible in working patterns
* Understanding of the principles of Clinical Audit
Other – Desirable
* Experience in teaching undergraduates
* Computer literate (Microsoft Word/Excel/Access or equivalent)
