Pre-Registration Pharmacy Technician

Weare currently recruiting Pre-Registration Pharmacy Technicians to work at the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch and Worcester Royal Hospitals.
Weare looking for 2 individuals with an aspiration to providepatient care by ensuring that our patients get the right medicineat the right time. These full time posts will start in March 2026.
The role will involve working in an acute hospital setting within multi-disciplinary teams.
Youwill have the opportunity to complete a 2-year,day release college course togain a Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians.
Youwill gain experience in all aspects of pharmacy services including ward basedpharmacy where you will be interviewing patients about their medications onadmission, work as part of the multidisciplinary team to ensure all medicationsare available for the patient, including the provision of discharge medication.You will be trained in dispensing, preparation of sterile products, stockmanagement and procurement. This experience will enable you to play an integralpart in own Trust values, and Putting the Patient first.

You will have the support of Practice Supervisors, who will provide the practical training and supported learning you need throughout the two-year training course
The salary is 70% of top of Band 4 pay band year 1 and 75% of top of a Band 4 pay band Year 2(Annex 21/U).For existing NHS staff pay preservation will be available(Annex 30). Minimum wage may be applied dependent on pay awards. This can discussed further at interview.
Upon successful completion of the two-year training programme, you will be eligible for registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council as a Pharmacy Technician with all the benefits & opportunities that the profession has to offer.
Eligibility for this apprenticeship is based on candidates meeting the full right to work employer checks as well as meeting the eligibility requirements for an Apprenticeship as set out in the UK Government Apprenticeship Rules: Apprenticeship funding rules 2024 to 2025.
NOTE
* The apprentice should have valid right to work visa that covers the entire training period of the apprenticeship.
* To be legible for apprenticeship funding you must have lived in the UK for 3 years or more and have recourse to public funds.
* Be able to evidence study of maths & English to GCSE or Level 2 equivalent (such as Functional Skills).If this study was from overseas we will require UK ENIC equivalency evidence.

Job responsibilities
KeyDuties:
Completion of 2 year training program and undertake studies toachieve Level 3 Pharmacy Skills and Services qualification, as required by theGPhC to become a registered Pharmacy Technician.
Attendance to college study days where these are arranged, andcompletion of all coursework and assignments set by the educational provider bythe deadlines as required.
Completion of a complete portfolio of evidence.
Participate in quarterly appraisals and personal reviews and workto achieve set objectives.
Develop professional and pharmaceutical skills throughparticipation in the Trusts pharmacy technician rotation programme.
Undertake study and revision in own time outside of working hours.
Be aware and work within departmental procedures and policies,accepted standards of practice and relevant legislation. (E. g Health andSafety, Medicine Act) .
Dispensary:
Contribute to the provision of a dispensary service to inpatientsand outpatients, using the pharmacy computer systems for stock control andlabelling.
Prepare labels and dispense medicines for patients.
Maintain satisfactory stock levels, storage and turnover ofmedicines to ensure the quality of medicines are maintained.
Identify actual and potential stock problems to other staffmembers as necessary.
Complete and maintain accurate records where appropriate.
Issue medicines to patients, including appropriate medicineinformation.
Using communication skills to receive enquiries and otherappropriate information from healthcare professionals, patients and member thepublic.
Participate in the enquiry answering function of the medicinesinformation service under the direct supervision of a pharmacist or suitablyqualified pharmacy technician (as appropriate) including the public.
Using communication skills to provide a suitable response to theenquirer in a variety of formats (verbal or written).
Referral of enquirer to more appropriate sources of informationwhen necessary.
Use of a variety of information sources to include database(electronic and manual) searching.
The documentation of enquiries.
Aseptic Services (where appropriate):
Contribute to the work of the sterile production unit under thedirect supervision of a pharmacist or suitably qualified pharmacy technician(as appropriate).
Assist in the provision in aseptic services- cytotoxicreconstitution and intravenous additives.
Ensure all work completed complies with departmental standardoperating procedures and current legislation and guidance.
Participate in cleaning schedules.
Assist in monitoring the clean environment.
Assemble raw materials as required.
Complete and maintain accurate records
Stock distribution:
Contribute to the work of the stock control, stock ordering andreceiving and stock distribution of all pharmaceuticals within the pharmacydepartment under the supervision of a pharmacist or suitably qualified pharmacytechnician (as appropriate).
Participate in ward/department stock top-up service.
Assist in the purchasing of pharmaceuticals.
Participate in maintaining an adequate stock control programme.
Participate with checking and validating receipt of orders, andcorrect storage of stock.
Replenish stock throughout the department.
Ward Based Services:
Work under the direct supervision of qualified Senior PharmacyTechnicians to provide ward based Medicines Management Services includingMedicines Histories, Inpatient Supplies and patient counselling.

* Ability to carry out manual handling duties, using appropriate aids provided.
* Ability to participate in weekend/bank holiday work
* Ability to travel to Walsall college one day per week where necessary
Qualifications
* GCSEs: Maths, English and Science at C or above and 3 other subjects at a minimum of grade C.( or UK ENIC equivalency evidence)
* OR
* Pharmacy Services QCF Level 2 or equivalent with 12 months current experience and hold a functional skills level 2 qualification (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
* OR
* Three A Levels, one of which is a relevant Science subject and GCSE Maths grade C or above( or UK ENIC equivalency evidence)
* OR
* Degree in Science or Humanities and GCSE Maths grade C or above.( or UK ENIC equivalency evidence)
Knowledge and Skills
* Able to use Microsoft programs such as; PowerPoint, Excel and Word.
* Able to work as part of a team
Experience
* Experience of working with the public providing customer service
* Previous experience within a pharmacy setting
