Level 2 Health and Social Care Foundation Apprentice
Develop your career within Oxford University Hospitals as a Level 2 Health and Social Care Foundation Apprentice. This entry‑level apprenticeship is designed for individuals aged 16‑21 (or up to 25 for care leavers or those in prison) who are keen to start a career in health and social care.
Key Responsibilities
* Support registered nurses and other NHS staff in delivering high‑standard, person‑centred care to patients.
* Assist with the smooth running of the ward/clinical area, prioritising patients and families’ needs.
* Maintain the dignity, privacy and confidentiality of all patients and their relatives.
* Complete and maintain a portfolio of clinical competencies, including the Care Certificate and functional skills in English and Maths where required.
* Under direct supervision carry out tasks allocated by registered healthcare practitioners.
* Participate in regular appraisals, progress reviews and competency assessments.
Training & Development
This apprenticeship lasts 8 months, with final assessment by month 12. Successful completion leads to a Level 2 Health and Social Care Apprenticeship and a permanent Band 2 Healthcare Support Worker post. Apprentices receive full‑time placement in one clinical area at one of OUH’s four hospitals and gain structured training, fully paid study time and professional support.
Requirements
* Age 16‑21 (or up to 25 for eligible care leavers or those in prison).
* Strong enthusiasm, compassion and motivation to learn.
* Ability to work within a friendly, fast‑paced NHS environment.
* For UK nationals: ordinary residence in the UK or EEA for at least three years before apprenticeship start; for non‑UK nationals, permission to live in the UK and at least three years of UK residence.
* Willingness to complete the Care Certificate if not already achieved.
Compensation
Apprentices are paid an apprenticeship wage for up to 12 months. Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, including the Care Certificate and functional skills, you will move into a Band 2 Healthcare Support Worker role with a starting salary of £15,642. The Band 2 wage will apply after successful probation.
