Purpose of the job: Under the direction of a class teacher, take responsibility for delegated learning activities. This involves contributing to the planning, preparation and delivery of learning activities for individuals, groups or whole class and assessing, recording and reporting on students achievements, progress and development. A wonderful opportunity has arisen for a Senior Teaching Assistant to join our skilled educational support team at Shaftesbury Victoria School in Poole, Dorset. We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed Senior Teaching Assistant who will inspire our students, supporting them as they learn. Our vibrant school supports students aged 3-19 with primarily physical and medical needs and associated learning difficulties. We also have a number of students with Autistic Spectrum Condition. The successful candidate will support the class teacher in coordinating the organisation and management of a safe and purposeful learning environment, guiding the work of the class team. You will deliver group intervention teaching within a class and assist in maintaining and analysing records of student progress to inform future planning. In the absence of the class teacher, the post holder will provide cover. Ideally, you will have experience of working with children either in a special school or within an educational support setting. Additional knowledge of sensory integration and communication skills, such as, Makaton, would be advantageous.
