Job Description
This role has its foundation at the home farm unit, running with an emphasis on forage/grazing and now running with an adjoining sister unit both with 340 Crossbred cows block calving in the autumn period on each site.
The herds are managed on a forage-based system with the housed period on sand cubicles with semi TMR feeding; the yields are around 8,500 litres a cow. Milking is through 24:48 parlours, DTL with ACR’s, complete with auto shedding, heat time and state of the art handling facilities; the home farm also includes excellent calf rearing facilities, silage clamps and feedstores which cater for both units.
This position offers the benefit of a seasonal workload and hence much easier summer months, along with an excellent 3-bed house located centrally between the two units and an excellent remuneration/regular time off package.
Fact Sheet
Location: The farm business is situated between Norwich and Kings Lynn, about 20 miles from both. The very pleasant village of Litcham is 2 miles from the farm and has primary and secondary schools, post office and shops. Swaffham is 10 miles away and the small town of Fakenham is 6 miles from the farm, giving a selection of amenities.
The Farm: The farm has completed a transition to expand the dairy enterprise with an additional unit within the farm boundary also with 340 cows in the herd and on the same system. Grassland is established on the heavier land and the area is well suited of livestock farming. The farm is in a share agreement with the owner off the farm with the family based in Lincolnshire.
The Unit: The units are well equipped and well-maintained unit with 24:48 DTL parlours with ACR’s. The facilities also include Cow Manager with auto shedding to AI/handling area. There is modern calf housing on original unit which will cater for both units. The cows are cubicle housed with a large feed area central to the cubicles. Grazing, with first class infrastructure surrounds both units. The unit is well equipped in terms of machinery with upto date equipment.
The Dairy Herd: These are excellent herds of cows calving ideally from August to November. The herd average is over 8,500 litres on a grazing/buffer feeding system and semi TMR during housed period. The aim is to maintain cow numbers and maintain the block calving system which suits the overall farm structure on both units.
Accommodation: There is very good family accommodation on the unit. It is in very good order and free from rent, rates and Council Tax.
Remuneration: Subject to negotiation.
Time off: 90 days per contract year.
