Overview
Our group function Technology team at Saga is recruiting an experienced DBA (SQL) to join the team. You will report to the Lead Technology Engineer and work alongside our expert DBAs. In this role you will be responsible for the availability, security, performance and stability of the SQL platforms used across the Saga Group.
Salary £40,000 to £45,000 pro‑rata.
Role Responsibilities
* Availability and reliability of the SQL estate, including high availability techniques, backup and monitoring.
* Pro‑active database administration, monitoring and quality assurance.
* Backup/recovery, monitoring, security, SSIS/SSRS for ETL/reporting.
* High availability (Always On, clustering), disaster recovery, security management.
* Research and apply security remediation and vulnerability management activities.
* Develop awareness of new SQL products and versions for business objectives.
* Develop in‑house tools for database growth prediction and reorganisation.
* Collaborate with other Technology professionals to deliver projects and workstreams.
* Ensure deliveries are secure, in line with best practice and policy.
* Create and maintain technical documentation.
Ideal Candidate / Qualifications
Minimum:
* Mid‑level or higher SQL DBA experience.
* Proficiency in T‑SQL queries, stored procedures, partitioning, indexing, performance tuning, and SQL scripting.
* Experience with backups, recovery, monitoring, security, SSIS/SSRS, high availability, disaster recovery, and data migration.
* Strong problem‑solving and communication skills.
Preferred:
* Experience managing regulated data and transactional workloads (GDPR/PCI).
* Database design and support experience.
* Change lifecycle experience.
* Degree in IT/computer science or equivalent; Microsoft certifications (MCSA/MCITP SQL) preferred.
