Learning Support Assistant - St Albans. Are you passionate about helping children with special educational needs reach their full potential? We are looking for a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join a welcoming and supportive SEN school in St Albans. This school caters for children and young people aged 2-19 with a wide range of additional needs, including: Severe and Profound Learning Difficulties (SLD/PMLD); Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD); Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD); Complex medical needs and physical disabilities; Social, emotional, and communication challenges. Every day is different, and as a Learning Support Assistant in St Albans, you\'ll play a key role in helping pupils thrive in a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment.
Responsibilities
* Provide 1:1 and small group support tailored to individual learning plans
* Assist the class teacher with delivering engaging, accessible lessons
* Support pupils with communication and interaction, including the use of visual aids and alternative communication methods
* Promote independence and confidence both inside and outside of the classroom
* Help pupils with personal care and mobility needs where required
* Work closely with teachers, therapists, and SENCOs to ensure the best outcomes for pupils
* Encourage positive behaviour management strategies to create a calm and structured environment
Skills & Experience
* Previous experience supporting children with SEN (ASD, SLD, PMLD, or complex needs preferred)
* Knowledge of behaviour management techniques and strategies to support emotional regulation
* Patience, empathy, and resilience when working with children with additional needs
* Strong teamwork and communication skills to collaborate effectively with colleagues and parents
* Flexibility and creativity in adapting learning approaches to meet individual needs
