Position Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic registered nurse to work within the Bowel Cancer Screening Department. This is an ideal opportunity for those who would like to develop a career as a Specialist Screening Practitioner (SSP).
The Bowel Cancer Screening Department covers both Trust sites – University Hospital Coventry and the Hospital of St Cross in Rugby – along with satellite centres within North Warwickshire and South Warwickshire Foundation Trust. This role requires independent travel between these regional centres.
Applicants will be expected to be up to date with their practice; able to develop their skills and contribute to the development of the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme. Informal visits to the Department are welcomed for those wishing to learn more about the role.
Key Responsibilities
* Facilitate the patient journey for referrals with a positive FIT test.
* Provide patients with the required information to enable appropriate choices for investigation.
* Carry out health assessments in clinical settings.
* Prepare for and attend Bowel Cancer Screening endoscopy lists.
* Follow up the patient episode post procedure.
* Attend the Bowel Cancer Screening Specialist Practitioner course and undertake further training.
* Support patients throughout the screening journey.
Key Requirements & Qualifications
* Registered nurse and up to date with clinical practice.
* Evidence of an immunisation and vaccination report from current UK occupational health provider or UK GP.
* Good IT and organisational skills.
* Strong communication skills with patients and the multi‑disciplinary team.
* Willingness to attend the Specialist Practitioner course and additional training.
