Overview
Clinical Sister/Charge Nurse - Neurology on Ward 42 (37 beds, acute Neurology and stroke patients). Band 6 role to cover maternity leave for 12 months.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will coordinate ward activities, provide clinical leadership and support to the management team, and maintain high standards of care and patient safety. Responsibilities include clinical leadership, service/policy development, and ensuring delivery of quality care within operational pressures.

Job responsibilities
* Accountable for own actions in accordance with the Code of Professional Conduct; contribute to corporate objectives, acting within local, Trust and statutory guidelines and policies.
* Effectively communicate information regarding clinical decisions, policy and care pathways to patients/carers and the multi-professional team.
* Provide clinical leadership and support to the management team; participate in service/policy development.
* Responsible for clinical assessment of a group of patients and management of a team, ensuring appropriate care is planned, implemented and evaluated/audited.
* Organise cross-departmental/organisational activities including HR, resource, and bleep-holder responsibilities as appropriate.
* Demonstrate advanced technical/practical skills to ensure optimum patient management, including complex patient monitoring, equipment management and frequently performing invasive tests/procedures.
* Develop and educate staff, participating in supervision, mentorship and appraisal as required.
* Utilise IT systems to secure accurate and timely patient, workforce and resource data.
* Manage expected and unexpected clinical events requiring varying levels of physical effort according to patient dependency/clinical need.
* Support patients, carers and others during difficult situations in the clinical area (e.g., imparting bad news or following an unexpected event).
* Promote adherence to Health and Safety and Trust policies to protect staff and patients.
* Maintain a clean, safe environment adhering to Trust standards of cleanliness, hygiene and infection control.
