Severn Vale School is a single academy trust which provides an inclusive secondary education for students aged 11-16 that delivers strong student outcomes through high-quality teaching and outstanding pastoral care. Our Governing Board plays a vital role in the strategic leadership of the academy and we are seeking to appoint an organised, impartial and dedicated Clerk to support the board.
Role Overview
The Clerk to the Governors is a key role, providing administrative, procedural and legislative support to ensure the board operates efficiently and in line with statutory requirements. You will work closely with the Chair of Governors and the Headteacher to plan meetings, prepare documents, record decisions accurately and offer guidance on governance compliance.
Key Details
This is a part‑time, permanent contract, which requires flexibility around the meeting schedule. Currently, there are 4 Full Governing Board meetings and 14 Committee Meetings per year. Meetings usually take place on Mondays or Tuesdays with a 5:00pm start time.
Responsibilities
* Plan board meetings and prepare meeting documents.
* Record minutes and decisions accurately.
* Provide guidance on governance compliance.
* Assist with procedural and legislative support for the board.
Qualifications
* Excellent administrative skills, highly organized, methodical.
* Confidence using IT systems, ability to work independently.
* Strong communication with excellent written skills.
* Discretion, professionalism, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
* Knowledge or experience regarding school governance is desirable (training will be available).
Remuneration & Contract
Starting salary depends on experience and remuneration is for 3.75 hours per week, 38 weeks per year (0.0779 FTE).
