Senior Mechanical Engineer
Location: Rochester
Salary: Up to £55,000 depending on skills and experience
What You’ll Be Doing
* Generate design concepts and solutions from first principals to meet project and customer requirements, supported by sketches, hand calculations and associated data packs.
* Prepare and present engineering data packs for internal review and in a customer forum; check and approve datasets (drawings/MBD) to ensure they reflect design intent correctly and define parts for manufacture and inspection.
* Identify, define and manage work packages to derisk areas of the product design early in the lifecycle.
* Validate and verify requirements using appropriate tools (e.g., DOORS) and manage them through the engineering life cycle.
* Work collaboratively across all engineering disciplines, liaising with technical specialists as required.
* Manage the work of mechanical engineers and technicians and take technical responsibility for the design solutions and technical data packs produced; peer‑check the work of other mechanical engineers, including designs, design data, hand calculations and technical reports.
Essential Skills and Experiences
* Proven track record of product development from concept through to production, with strong technical ability to solve problems and innovate complex engineering systems.
* Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related subject preferred or demonstrable equivalent experience, with the ability to apply physics and engineering principals to derive and validate designs.
* Competence in the use of CAD tools (CREO preferred) to prepare design models and technical datasets (drawings/MBD).
Desirable Skills
* Experience in avionic systems, optical displays, mechatronics, electronics packaging, anthropometrics, composite design, additive manufacturing and test & measurement equipment.
* Capability to use specialist dynamic, structural and thermal analysis tools, including validation of their output.

Senior Mechanical Engineering Team
This role will provide Mechanical Engineering support for the design and development of new innovative products through fault finding, diagnostics and salvage of existing products.
A Senior Mechanical Engineer will innovate exclusively and work with other engineers/technicians to develop ideas into detailed schemes supported by calculations and reports to demonstrate compliance with requirements, including risk reduction testing as required. The expectation is to provide a high‑quality service to customers, on time and within budget with minimum management oversight.
