Position Description & Qualifications
Serco is hiring a Senior Marine Electrician to support U.S. Navy U.S. Naval Ships. The position is located in Newport News, Virginia. You will fabricate and assemble electromechanical and electronic assemblies and support the installation of cabling, equipment, and C5ISR systems for U.S. Naval Ships.
In This Role, You Will
* Receive initial instructions, equipment requirements, and advice from supervisor or engineer; perform recurring work independently; work is reviewed for technical adequacy or conformity with instructions including troubleshooting and correcting malfunctions.
* Conduct various tests or experiments which may require minor modifications in test setups or procedures as well as subjective judgments in measurement; select, set up, and operate standard test equipment and record test data.
* Perform assignments that are not completely standardized or prescribed such as constructs components, subunits, or simple models or adapts standard equipment.
* Gather and maintain specified records of engineering data such as tests, drawings, etc.; perform computations by substituting numbers in specified formulas; plot data and draw simple curves and graphs.
* Perform simple or routine tasks or tests such as tensile or hardness tests; operate and adjust simple test equipment; record test data.
* Rely on your experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals and you will typically report to a supervisor in a safe work environment.
To Be Successful In This Role, You Will Have
* A High School Diploma or equivalent.
* The ability to obtain and maintain an active DoD Secret Clearance.
* The ability to obtain and gain access to shipyards (NAVSTA & DBIDS), undergo a background investigation and pass a drug screening.
* The ability to obtain an OSHA 10 certification.
* The ability to get respirator qualified and wear PPE throughout the work shift.
* A combined minimum of 8 years experience in electrical work and/or Shipboard experience.
* Experience managing a crew of various trades (6‑10 people).
* A combination of 8 years of experience in the following areas:
o Competency attaching fiber optic, RJ‑45, DB type connectors.
o Read drawings (Tradesman level).
o QCI instruction of lower techs.
o Implement safety program/SRAR Qual/CP.
o Prelim QA testing, MCTs, space closeouts.
o Multipin competent.
o Electrical testing requirements, i.e., ground checks, RSPT testing.
o Layout & cutting of electrical enclosures, electrical hook‑ups & multiple meter knowledge.
o Reading drawings (Apprentice level).
o Band/pack MCTs/RISE.
o Layout & mount small equipment as needed.
o Basic knowledge of tools, QA documents, meter.
o Safety: Actively participates in safety surveillance & walk‑throughs.
* Familiarization with NAVSEA, standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of electrical repair, fabrication, and installation.
* The ability to work in high heat spaces, climb shipyard dry dock stairs/ladders, work in kneeling position for layout of cable runs under false decking, lift up to 50 pounds and frequently move 40 pounds in various positions.
* Attention to safety, which is critical.
* The ability and willingness to travel up to 25% to various work sites.
