Overview
A full time vacancy has arisen in the Legal Services Department for a Paralegal (Civil Claims). This is a challenging role where the post holder will investigate and research all aspects of public and employer liability claims against the Chief Constable of Kent in order to assess liability, respond to and effectively defend claims. The successful candidate will also be required to assist the Head of Legal Services and lawyers within the Department in other areas of police law as and when necessary.
Key Responsibilities
* Investigate and research all aspects of public and employer liability claims against the Chief Constable of Kent.
* Assess liability, respond to and effectively defend claims.
* Assist the Head of Legal Services and lawyers within the Department in other areas of police law as and when necessary.
* Research, collate evidence and collect appropriate and accurate documentation to support the building of case papers to a high standard through detailed and comprehensive reports.
* Produce a full range of documentation and correspondence to a high professional standard.
* Ensure all files are appropriately compiled and completed within the required timescales.
* Work using own initiative and sound administrative experience.
Qualifications & Experience
* Good interpersonal and communication skills; ability to discuss cases with police witnesses, obtain necessary reports and respond to claims.
* Detailed knowledge of police law, civil court process, and knowledge of both criminal and civil law.
* Desire to have knowledge of practical application of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984.
* Self‑motivated, confident and well organised; able to manage and prioritise work and use own judgement with confidential matters.
* Good keyboard skills; sound knowledge of Microsoft products including Word to intermediate standard.

Salary
Kent Police offer incremental increases within this salary band; therefore the salary for this position will rise to a maximum of £35,802.00.
