Job summary
The Quality Governance and Patient Safety Support is a member of the Quality Governance Team. Working collaboratively across disciplines, the post holder will lead aspects of quality governance, including serious incident investigations, as delegated by the Head of Quality Governance & IG. The role aims to facilitate learning and improvements in clinical practice and safety to reduce risk.
The role promotes a positive learning and just culture environment where changes are established and embedded to improve patient safety, experience, and outcomes. An open learning culture will be fostered to ensure lessons and actions are taken, and appropriate responses are made to mistakes, service failures, and by learning from excellent practice to disseminate this knowledge.
Main duties of the job
1. Oversee the Governance function, including delegation of duties to the Governance Support Officer.
2. Manage policies and operational documents, ensuring appropriate review and ratification before expiry.
3. Support the Quality Governance Advisor in completing the clinical audit process.
4. Own the generic Quality Governance inbox with delegation to the team.
5. Promptly action all correspondence.
6. Ensure alignment with NEMS SOPs and KPIs when responding to complaints, incidents, and healthcare professional feedback.
7. Produce data reports as instructed by the Head of Quality Governance & IG and the Quality Governance Advisor.
8. Apply innovative thinking to maintain high standards of performance.
9. Ensure the Governance database is up to date, capturing relevant learning and actions taken.

4. Manage the Governance inbox and delegate tasks.
5. Respond promptly to all correspondence.
6. Ensure responses to complaints, incidents, and feedback meet SOPs and KPIs.
7. Generate data reports as required.
8. Promote innovative approaches to maintain high standards.
9. Keep the Governance database current, capturing learning and actions.
10. Work under the direction of the Quality Governance Advisor, ensuring investigations into clinical incidents are conducted within set timeframes and protocols, maintaining confidentiality and integrity throughout.
11. Utilize Human Factors and Ergonomics tools to support investigations.
12. Ensure transparent and honest communication with patients, relatives, and carers.
13. Support the dissemination of lessons learned and remedial actions.
14. Assist in delivering specific projects related to quality governance.
15. Maintain high standards of record-keeping and produce timely investigation reports.
16. Support compliance with the NEMS Patient Safety Incident Framework and Duty of Candour.
17. Respond to safety alerts and ensure appropriate actions are taken.
18. Engage in self-development and mandatory training, maintaining a personal development plan.
19. Perform any other reasonable requests related to the Quality Governance function.
