We are recruiting a fixed‑term role, up to 2 years, for a senior advisor in the energy sector. The role involves regulating energy sectors to decarbonise by 2050, ensuring emissions are managed and supporting environmental outcomes.
Responsibilities
* Provide expert support and technical leadership through advice, guidance, and training.
* Develop strategy for the energy sectors and produce tools to regulate, support development, and deliver environmental outcomes.
* Commission and manage external research projects where needed.
* Work with internal and external stakeholders such as Defra, DESNZ, internal operations teams, trade associations and other key industry players.
* Respond to incidents and offer business continuity support during incidents.
Team
The Energy & COMAH team is part of the Energy and Manufacturing Industries Regulation Directorate. Technical experts lead on the definition of standards for our sectors, providing strategic direction, guidance, training, and best practice.
Experience and Skills
* Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures, encouraging diversity.
* Relevant technical and regulatory knowledge and experience in the energy sector (e.g., combustion plants, waste incineration, refineries), including control measures for emissions to air.
* Ability to build and maintain good relationships with colleagues, operators, partner regulators, government, trade bodies, and academia.
* Work cooperatively as part of a team to achieve common goals.
