About the Role
As our EMEA Editor, you will:
1. Plan and lead Context’s coverage of climate change, socio-economic inequality, and the impact of tech on society in Europe, the Middle East and Africa
2. Manage, support and guide a team of correspondents across the EMEA region, from pitching to commissioning, reporting, editing and publishing
3. Deliver a balanced file with news-led as well as enterprise and data-led journalism of the highest standard
4. Champion collaboration across Context's regional editorial teams and areas of coverage
5. Curate timely and insightful op-eds from influential personalities in the region
6. Collaborate with audience, social and video teams to drive audience-focused and innovative multimedia storytelling
7. Ensure use of SEO and digital best practices in all output
8. Maintain a network of strong, multimedia-capable freelancers and influential op-ed contributors across the region
9. Help produce Context-branded thought-leadership events including panels, webinars, salons, film screenings, etc
10. Represent Context and the Foundation at public events
11. Manage budgets for donor-funded editorial projects
12. Mentor and develop young talent
About You
To be our EMEA Editor, you will likely have:
13. Extensive journalism experience, including a track record of writing and editing features, long-reads, investigations and exclusives, and commissioning impactful op-eds
14. Experience leading global teams of journalists
15. Solid knowledge of news, current affairs, developing stories, trends and issues relating to Context’s areas of coverage - climate, socio-economic inequality and the impact of tech on societies - in the EMEA region
16. A good grasp of minority, gender and LGBTQ+ rights issues in your geographical patch
17. Familiarity with audience analytics and how to use them in editorial decision making
18. An appreciation for and understanding of SEO-led writing
19. Good understanding of social media platforms, audience building and engagement
20. An aptitude for video and/or audio production
21. Experience creating and managing budgets for editorial projects
22. A desire for mentoring junior journalists
23. An ability to work independently, with minimal supervision
24. Strong command of written and spoken English
25. Fluency in at least 1 other language
