Leader Education are delighted to be recruiting a Mental Health Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist school in South Shields as a Learning Support Assistant. This is a highly rewarding long-term opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
The school supports students aged 5–16 years, many of whom require a nurturing, consistent approach to help them re-engage with education. Some pupils may have experienced exclusion from previous settings and can present challenging behaviours, making this an ideal role for someone resilient, compassionate and motivated to make a genuine difference. The school places a strong emphasis on motivation, engagement and helping students successfully transition into the next stage of their lives.
The school’s most recent Ofsted rating is “Good”, recognising its inspiring curriculum and supportive environment that addresses students’ underlying needs.
About the role:
* Full-time, long-term position following a successful trial
* Working hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm
* Providing 1:1 and small group support to help students access the curriculum
* Supporting students’ emotional regulation, behaviour and engagement in learning
The ideal candidate will:
* Have experience supporting children or young people with SEMH needs and/or challenging behaviour
* Be patient, compassionate and resilient
* Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Demonstrate a strong understanding of safeguarding and child welfare
* Be adaptable and committed to meeting the diverse needs of students
* Hold an enhanced DBS on the update service or be willing to obtain one
