We are seeking enthusiastic, hardworking dental nurses to join the Birmingham Community Dental Nursing Team.

We currently have a vacancy for a Band 4 Dental Nurse:

15.0 hours / 0.4 WTE / Working days to be Monday and Tuesday. Based in the Walsall locality at the Brace Street Health Centre.

To work flexibly within a dental team providing high-quality care to a wide spectrum of patients across localities within the Dental Service, based at Birmingham Dental Hospital (BDH) and Community Dental Services (CDS), including Mobile Clinics and/or additional external sites as required.

Dental Nurses will be expected to work flexibly across the Dental Services.

To provide chairside assistance to clinicians within the dental service.

To carry out clerical and administrative duties to ensure efficient operation of the clinic/department.


Main duties of the job

* Maintain a high standard of patient care and confidentiality within all dental clinics throughout the service.
* Prepare and monitor patients for and during their dental treatment, providing pre and post-operative instructions as required.
* Undertake the general care of the surgery including dental equipment/instruments (medical devices) and arrange any necessary repairs.
* Ensure medical emergency drugs and equipment are available and up to date.
* Provide chairside assistance and postoperative instructions during general anaesthetic and exodontia sessions as required.
* Provide oral health education to patients as required by the clinician.
* Assist the Senior Dental Nurse in the smooth running of the Dental service.
* Support and assist clinicians including all student disciplines.
* Support and supervise all apprentice nurses and undergraduate groups.

Person specification


Education

* A Dental Nurse qualification enabling registration with the General Dental Council (e.g., NVQ Level 3, Level 3 Diploma in Dental Nursing, or Dental Nursing National Certificate). Gained entry onto GDC register via grand-parenting (pre 2008).
* Registered with the General Dental Council.


Experience

* Relevant experience working as part of a dental team (e.g., General Practice, Hospital, Primary Dental Services, Community Dental Services) including chairside duties.
* Experience working with children, elderly, medically compromised patients, and patients with learning disabilities.
