About the Role
We are seeking a highly capable and experienced Financial Controller to lead and develop our finance department. This pivotal role will ensure the integrity of financial processes, reporting, and controls, while supporting strategic decision-making across the business.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead, manage, and develop the finance team to ensure high performance and professional growth.
• Maintain and enhance a robust financial controls framework.
• Oversee and, where necessary, prepare routine financial transactions including:
-Month-end journal entries and trial balance review
-Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable processes
• Prepare and review financial reports including:
-Monthly management accounts with variance analysis and balance sheet reconciliations
-Departmental overhead cost reports and liaison with budget holders
-Board-level reporting packs
-Annual statutory financial statements and regulatory accounts
• Coordinate and manage the annual external audit process.
• Oversee cash management activities including:
-Cashflow forecasting
-Payment approvals
The Individual
The successful candidate will be a commercially aware financial professional, a strategic thinker with a sharp eye for detail, and a passion for driving results. They will thrive in fast paced environments and combine technical expertise with hands-on problem solving.
Essential
* ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified with at least 4 years post-qualification experience, including 3+ years in industry.
* Proven experience managing a small finance team.
* Strong understanding of financial processes, controls, and compliance.
* Excellent IT skills, including proficiency with ERP systems and Microsoft Office suite.
Desirable
* Experience in the utilities sector
* Exposure to change management and systems implementation
* Familiarity with Sage 200
