Department and Role Overview
The Intensive Care Department is part of the Anaesthetics & Theatres departments.
The post holder will join a team of 6 intensive care consultants at Queen's Hospital, providing anaesthetic and critical care support to various surgical specialties. The role includes a 1:7 service week rota, with opportunities for anaesthetic lists aligned with the candidate's interests at Royal Derby Hospital. Facilities and Services
The ICU at QHB was renovated in 2020 and has 8 funded Level ICU beds.
The Adult ICU at Queens Hospital, Burton, has 14 beds, including up to 8 Level 3 beds. It is located opposite main theatres, with dedicated office space and secretarial support. The unit admits over 500 patients annually and complies with GPICS standards. The team comprises 7 consultants, with a busy on-call schedule suitable for an acute hospital setting.

The Anaesthetics Department provides comprehensive services across UHDB Hospitals and is part of the Surgical Services Directorate, which includes Anaesthesia, Surgery, and Trauma & Orthopaedics.
All consultants will contribute to general clinical services and may pursue specialist interests.

Job Planning and Responsibilities
The job plan will be agreed with the Assistant Clinical Director and reviewed annually. It covers clinical duties, teaching, research, education, and managerial responsibilities, with personal objectives linked to service goals.
The initial 3-month job plan averages 10 programmed activities per week, including ICU commitments based on a provisional timetable, subject to review. Activities may involve work at Royal Derby Hospital and Queens Hospital, Burton, with a 1:7 on-call commitment.
