Finance Assistant – Debtors (Temporary until 31.03.2026)
Join Alternative Futures Group as a Finance Assistant – Debtors. The role supports the Financial Accountant in managing the sales ledger and ensuring timely invoicing, collection, and reporting.
Key Responsibilities
* Maintain sales ledger accounts in the Finance System.
* Process customer/commissioner invoices and maximize income.
* Ensure accurate invoicing and resolve queries promptly.
* Perform debtor account reconciliations and ensure balance sheet control accounts are up to date.
* Raise sales invoices and credit notes according to billing schedules.
* Collect payments through reminders, statements, and regular contact with customers via telephone, e‑mail, and letter.
* Adhere to financial and business controls and assist with the allocation of receipts.
* Issue copy invoices/statements as required.
* Reconcile unallocated cash and raise manual invoices and credits.
* Produce debtor reports for cash‑flow forecasting and maintain corporate procedures.
* Post journals to the nominal ledger and correct mis‑postings.
* Compile and submit statutory information required by government bodies.
* Produce monthly and ad‑hoc management information.
* Assist in year‑end timetable, liaison with auditors, and produce statutory accounts.
* Prepare working papers to audit standard for the year‑end external audit.
* Provide cover within the Financial Accounting Team.
* Undertake one‑off projects as required.
* Other duties commensurate with the role.
Qualifications & Skills
* Basic education, literacy and numeracy skills.
* Maths GCSE.
* Proven experience within a Sales Ledger environment.
* Experience working accurately under pressure with strict deadlines.
* Knowledge of Windows based applications.
* Strong numerical and data processing skills, fast and accurate input.
* Proficiency in Excel for manipulating large amounts of financial data.
* Good communication skills with customers and colleagues at all levels.
* Ability to identify improvements and implement changes.
* Team‑player who supports others and contributes to a positive working culture.
* Demonstrated desire to provide high‑quality service.
Working Arrangements
Home based with occasional travel within the North West for meetings. Flexible working options include a 9‑day fortnight or a 4.5‑day week to support work‑life balance.
