Job overview

The Estates Team prides itself on delivering an Engineering support service across the Trust in order to maintain patient and staff environments.

Key Working Relationships

Develop and maintain good working relationships with clinicians, departmental heads, Risk Management, statutory regulators, Fire Brigade, external consultants, contractors and company representatives

Main duties of the job

1. To maintain and repair a wide range of electrical and mechanical plant & equipment.
2. Undertake an Electrical Authorised Person role as required (Electrical bias Technicians)
3. Undertake the role of a medical gas competent person carrying out maintenance, repairs and duties related to medical gas pipeline systems.
4. To be included on the On-Call Rota, to meet emergency and urgent situations out of hours. To be prepared to respond to emergency work outside normal working hour.
5. Make calls to approved Contractors for breakdowns out of hours as necessary when on-call.
6. Deal with major incidents such as loss of electrical services to critical areas, loss of medical gas to critical areas, loss of heating and hot water services to critical areas
7. Assist to motivate, train and develop the maintenance team and apprenticeship scheme, ensuring the effective use of labour and materials to provide an efficient maintenance service for the Trust's building assets and to support Trust Managers.

9. Standby Generator Testing
10. Lifts – rescue trapped persons
11. Survey & quote for minor electrical installations and alterations
12. Carry out minor electrical installations and alterations
13. Lighting
14. Plant Controls
15. Environmental Computer controlled systems
16. Air Handling Units
17. Nurse Call Systems
18. Heating & Ventilation
19. Water softening plant
20. Refrigeration Systems
21. Emergency lighting
22. Isolated Power systems
23. Central Battery system
24. UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply) systems
25. Fire Alarm testing and attendance to fire alarms when on call
26. Calorifiers and Hot Water systems
27. Heating & Ventilation Controls
28. Steam Plant
29. MTHW (Medium Temperature Hot Water) Plant
30. LTHW (Low Temperature Hot Water) Plant
31. Plumbing (including all parts of domestic hot and cold water systems)
32. Pneumatic Tube system
33. Medical Equipment
34. Medical Gas plant & Equipment
35. Other Mechanical and electrical items as and when added or identified
36. Carry out minor building repairs when on-call

Person specification

Essential

Essential criteria

37. Electrical apprenticeship or equivalent City & Guilds or NVQ Level 3.
38. Proven communication skills
39. Experience in a maintenance environment
40. Hold a valid Driving License or be within 45 minutes commuting distance, both in and out of hours.
41. Be able to attend a face to face interview at the hospital.

Desirable criteria

42. Experience working in a health care environment
