As a Band 5 Staff Nurse within the Outpatients team, you will work alongside a well-established team of colleagues to facilitate the smooth running of clinics within the appointed times.
You will treat patients according to their individual needs and prescriptions, acting as their advocate.
The role also requires supervising the nursing team on a day-to-day basis, referring to the department manager when necessary, and taking charge of the department in the absence of a senior staff member.
Main duties of the job
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Registered Nurse to work as a Band 5 Staff Nurse within a well-established General Outpatient Service based at the North of the Trust, including UHND, CLS, SBH, and SCH. The department provides medical and surgical specialist clinics. You will have excellent communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a team or independently where required. As the Registered Nurse on duty, you will manage the day-to-day running of the department in the absence of the departmental sisters and supervise junior staff and students when required. The role is suitable for a Registered Nurse with post-registration experience that can be utilized within the clinic setting.

Job responsibilities
To provide nursing assistance and technical support within clinics.
To advise patients within the department, enabling optimum treatment via telephone inquiries and health promotion information or leaflets.
Teaching new skills to patients to manage self-care.
Depending on experience, act as a mentor to students.
Supervise and train unqualified and newly appointed staff.
Respond appropriately, providing support to distressed patients, relatives, and carers during and after consultations.
Supervise the nursing team, referring to the department manager when appropriate.
Demonstrate working knowledge of Trust Personnel and Health and Safety Policies.
Carry out and supervise prescribed treatments with evidence-based knowledge, ensuring patient information and consent are obtained to promote recovery and compliance.
