Join to apply for the Volunteer Trustee | Holding Space role at Holding Space Eastbourne
We're looking for a proactive individual with a strong network of connections in the Eastbourne and local community to join our board of trustees at Holding Space.
What difference will you make?
Your involvement on the Board will be a lifeline for our services. We currently have a small number of trustees already doing incredible work for the charity, but we need the additional support - particularly from an individual who can bring their local connections and knowledge of the community to the team.
What are we looking for?
What we’re looking for Skills Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to engage potential supporters and represent the charity effectively. Strategic thinking and decision-making at senior level. Confidence in networking and influencing individuals and organisations. Experience Building relationships with corporate sponsors, local businesses, or philanthropists. Maintaining partnerships Working within a team or committee to shape organisational direction. Business development Fundraising and/or events management - ideally within the charity, community, or not-for-profit sector. Desirable, not essential. Qualities Passion for supporting the mental health of parents and carers. Strong local knowledge and community connections. Integrity, commitment, and reliability. A collaborative and positive attitude, with a willingness to get involved and make a difference. Lived experience as a parent is desirable. It is not essential for you to have trustee experience. We welcome applications from all individuals with a keen interest in family mental health and enthusiasm for positive change. We are committed to building a Board that reflects the diversity of the community we support. Holding Space is opposed to all forms of prejudice and believes that everyone should be treated fairly, regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership status, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation (the protected characteristics). We are committed to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion for our current and future trustees, staff, volunteers, and the families we support. We actively advocate for, and support, equality of access, experience, and outcomes for all parents, carers, and children engaging with our services. Holding Space is committed to building and maintaining an inclusive and supportive culture - a place where everyone can be themselves and contribute their skills and experience. We aim to promote a more inclusive environment that attracts trustees from a wide range of backgrounds, and signals our commitment to celebrate and champion diversity, including LGBTQ+ and other equality matters.
What will you be doing?
As a small charity, we're facing our toughest year yet. Back in 2019, when our founder opened Holding Space, we relied on grants and bursaries to fund our cause. We were able to secure a spot on the high street for local parents and carers to drop in and access the support they needed. We provide 1-2-1 peer support directly to the parent/carer whose child is struggling with their mental health. Support is provided on the phone and face to face by trained individuals with lived experience, who will walk the journey with parents so they know they are not alone. We also facilitate coffee mornings to help parents and carers connect with others with similar experiences. In recent years, grants and bursaries have become increasingly more challenging to win due to the number of grants reducing, while the number of applications rising. This year Holding Space must respond to the changes that are happening in the non-profit sector and take a whole new approach to raising funds. As part of our new approach, we are putting all efforts into fundraising and events to ensure our services remain an accessible resource for parents and carers in 2026, and years to come. To give us every chance of staying open, we are looking for a proactive individual who can use their local connections in the community to influence strong support from corporate partners and philanthropists, joining our Board of Trustees to strengthen our charity at a highly strategic level. If you have experience in fundraising and events, this is a huge bonus to help inform the strategy
