Under the supervision of experienced craftspeople, the apprentice will develop competence in metal fabrication techniques, machinery operation, workplace safety, and quality standards. Main responsibilities Fabrication & Assembly Assist in the fabrication of metal components using cutting, forming, welding, and machining techniques Read and interpret basic engineering drawings, schematics, and work instructions Measure, mark, and prepare materials for fabrication Assemble mechanical components, sub-assemblies, and structures in accordance with engineering drawings and build instructions Fit bearings, shafts, fasteners, seals, brackets, and mechanical fittings Use hand tools, torque tools, and measuring equipment correctly Check alignment, fit, and function of assembled components Assist with fault finding, adjustment, and rework of mechanical assemblies Welding & Machining (Training-Based) Learn and assist with welding processes (e.g. MIG, TIG, Stick) as appropriate Operate fabrication equipment such as presses, grinders, drills, saws, and CNC or manual machines under supervision Perform basic machining and finishing tasks Workplace Safety & Quality Follow all workplace health and safety procedures at all times Use personal protective equipment (PPE) correctly Maintain a clean and organized work area Learn quality control procedures and ensure work meets required standards Learning & Development Attend required off-the-job training or trade school Actively participate in skills development and assessments Take direction from supervisors and seek feedback to improve performance Foundation / Position Requirements: Skills, experience, certifications Basic mechanical aptitude Ability to use hand and power tools safely Willingness to learn fabrication and welding techniques Strong work ethic and reliability Attention to detail Good problem-solving skills Ability to work as part of a team Positive attitude toward learning and feedback Qualifications & Requirements Minimum education level as required by apprenticeship standards Interest in mechanical fabrication or engineering trades Ability to follow instructions and safety procedures TAIT is an equal opportunity employer fully committed to diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
