About the role
We’re currently seeking a Data Consultant to support the Underwriting and Pricing team. This role has been created as a result of NFU Mutual’s largest and most ambitious transformation programme, designed to modernise how its products are bought, sold, and managed. Its core mission is to make NFU Mutual’s offerings easier to buy, easier to sell, and easier to manage, while aligning with customer expectations and market standards.
You’ll play a key part in new system builds—setting up and elaborating technical requirements and ensuring they’re robust, well documented, and fit for purpose for the business. Collaboration sits at the heart of this role: you’ll engage with neighbouring teams and represent the Pricing Data function in a multitude of forums, including senior leadership forums, presenting progress, sharing insight and options, and championing best practice across the wider programme.
Step into a pivotal role where you’ll shape and deliver products that power the programme. As Data Consultant, you’ll take ownership of end-to-end delivery: shaping data for future interrogation by the business, influencing data flows, delivering against user stories, running local team scrums, planning workloads for yourself and your direct report, and keeping momentum high across complex workstreams. You will contribute to people leadership, of your direct report through day-to-day guidance, coaching, and mentoring.
Technically, you will stay close to the detail. From data profiling and backbook analysis to hands-on support for analytics and broader technical needs, you’ll be the go-to for pragmatic, delivery-focused solutions that help the programme land successfully.
Your domain will be General Insurance, with a primary focus on motor and commercial products—bringing together your delivery acumen and data expertise to drive tangible improvements for the business.
This role is based in our Tiddington Head Office, just outside Stratford-Upon-Avon. However, we understand how important a positive work-life balance is, so to help you give your best, we offer great facilities when you want to be in an office environment and support to work up to 80% of your hours from home.
About you
You are a confident and competent data professional confident in your ability to make effective decisions when under pressure. You possess advanced SQL and Excel skills (essential), with demonstrable experience in data engineering and technical delivery, including leading projects across their full lifecycle. You’re able to develop data solutions and communicate the impact to technical, and non-technical stakeholders. You are used to critically assessing your work, collaborating with peers, and ensuring that elaborations are suitable and fit for purpose.
Whether you have previous management experience or are ready to take your leadership skills to the next level, engaging and developing colleagues to ensure work is completed to a high standard. You keep yourself and your colleagues accountable, organised and on track to deadlines.
To join the team, you’ll bring:
4. Experience with ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes and tools such as SSIS, ADF etc.
5. Ability to critically analyse data flows and optimise code
6. A strong background in data reconciliation, testing, and technical documentation
7. Excellent stakeholder management, requirements gathering, regular communication, and influencing skills
8. Experience coaching or mentoring others (formal people management experience is desirable)
Though not essential, General insurance (GI) experience, especially in pricing or underwriting, is highly desirable

9. Salary, £49,000 - £60,000, depending on experience
