Veritas Education is recruiting an experienced and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to support students within a Secondary SEMH school in the Kingston area. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about supporting young people with social, emotional and mental health needs.
About the School
* Specialist Secondary SEMH provision
* Nurture-led and trauma-informed approach
* Small class sizes with high levels of support
* Strong focus on emotional regulation, engagement and positive behaviour
Key Responsibilities
* Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with SEMH needs
* Support emotional regulation and positive behaviour management
* Assist students with engagement in learning and classroom activities
* Work closely with teachers, pastoral and SEN teams
* Build positive, consistent and trusting relationships with students
* Support students during transitions and unstructured times
Skills & Experience Required
* Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEND or challenging behaviour
* Calm, patient and resilient approach
* Strong communication and relationship-building skills
* Confidence managing and de-escalating challenging behaviour
* Ability to work effectively as part of a team
* Background in education, care, youth work or similar is highly desirable
* Strong commitment to safeguarding and student wellbeing
