We are very excited to be looking for a Pharmacy Technician to join our committed, dedicated team at the surgery. This is a new role for us and we feel this role will be a great addition to our established team.

The Pharmacy Technician will play a key role in supporting our Clinical Pharmacist in providing the delivery of safe, effective and efficient systems for repeat prescribing, medicines optimisation, reducing medicines waste and maximising patient outcomes.

The successful candidate will need to be a qualified Pharmacy Technician and be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council.


Main duties of the job

The Pharmacy Technician will provide administrative support to theclinicians and support the practices clinical teams with queries regardingmedication from patients.

The post holder will also complete audits regarding patient safety in the prescribing of medication andpresent the information for sharing with the clinical team.


About us

The New Surgeryis a stable six-partner Practice supported by an excellent, dedicated team ofnurses and admin /reception team. Wealso benefit from a wide multi-disciplinary team, including clinical supportfrom a Pharmacist, Physiotherapist and ANP.

We are a GMSpractice, with a list size of 11,000, based in a purpose-built medical centrein Chesham with free parking available on site.We share the premises with another GP surgery and a dentist. There is also a pharmacy on the groundfloor.

We are an EMIS practice, rated GOOD by CQC. We consistently achieve excellent feedback from our patients who find us an accessible, caring practice offering outstanding healthcare.


Job responsibilities

Thefollowing are the main responsibilities of the Pharmacy Technician. There may be, on occasion, a requirement tocarry out other tasks. This will be dependent upon factors such as workload andstaffing levels:

* Undertake patientfacing and patient supporting roles to ensure effective medicines use through shared decision-makingconversations with patients
* Carry out medicineoptimisation tasks including effective medicine administration (e.g.,checking inhaler technique), support medication reviews and medicinesreconciliation. When required, utilise consultation skills to work inpartnership with patients to ensure they use their medicines effectively
* Support thePharmacist in medication reviews and medicines reconciliation for new carehome patients and synchronise medicines for patient transfers between caresettings and linking with local community pharmacists
* Provide specialistexpertise, when competent, to address both the public health and social careneeds of patients including lifestyle advice, service information and help intackling local health inequalities
* Take a central rolein the clinical aspects of shared care protocols and liaise with specialistpharmacists for more complex patients
* Assist in thedelivery of medicines optimisation and management incentive schemes andpatient safety audits
* Support theimplementation of national prescribing policies and guidance within GPpractices, care homes and other primary care settings. This will be achievedthrough undertaking clinical audits (e.g., use of antibiotics), supportingquality improvement measures and contributing to the Quality and OutcomesFramework and enhanced services
* Contribute to publichealth campaigns (e.g., COVID-19 or flu clinics) through advice or directcare
* The administrative responsibilities of thePharmacy Technician:
* Work with themulti-disciplinary team to ensure efficient medicines optimisation includingimplementing efficient ordering and return processes and reducing wastage
* Support the practicereception team in sorting and streaming general prescription requests so asto allow GPs [and Clinical Pharmacists] to review the more clinically complexrequests
* Help plan, developand support the introduction of new working procedures to optimise thequality of prescribing which ensure the best value from medicines byencouraging and implementing safe repeat prescribing systems and timelymonitoring and management of high-risk medicines
* Support the deliveryof QOF, incentive schemes, QIPP and other quality or cost effectivenessinitiatives
* Respond to medicationqueries from patients and staff, referring to the practice Pharmacist and/orGPs as necessary
* Undertake any tasksconsistent with the level of the post and the scope of the role, ensuringthat work is delivered in a timely and effective manner

Duties may vary fromtime to time without changing the general character of the post or the levelof responsibility.


Person Specification


Experience

* Experience of working in a primary care setting
* Experience of working under appropriate clinical supervision to ensure safe, effective and efficient use of medicines
* Understanding and knowledge of healthcare provision in GP practices, QOF and enhanced services
* Experience of audit
* Good clinical system IT knowledge of EMIS


Qualifications

* NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services (or equivalent)
* Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
* Meets the specific qualification and training requirements as specified by the GPhC criteria register as a Pharmacy Technician
* Enrolled in or qualified from an approved training programme that meets the Association of Pharmacy Technicians UK requirements or, for example, Primary care pharmacy education pathway (PCPEP)
