The Strategic General Practice Lead will play a pivotal rolein shaping the future of our practices in Whitburn and Jarrow. You will ensurethe delivery of highquality, efficient, and financially sustainable servicesby overseeing business operations, supporting integration between sites, andenabling team leads to deliver excellent daytoday care.

You will be a key contributor to longterm planning,financial stewardship, and organisational development, working closely withsenior leaders across STHC. The postholder will champion patient safety,regulatory compliance, and clinical governance, ensuring consistently highstandards of care.


Main duties of the job

* Provide strategic and operational leadership across two general practice sites
* Oversee business operations to ensure highquality, efficient, and sustainable services
* Strengthen integration between practices and support collaborative working
* Lead and empower practice and service leads to deliver excellent daytoday care
* Contribute to longterm planning, workforce development, and organisational growth
* Ensure robust systems for patient safety, regulatory compliance, and clinical governance
* Support financial planning, monitoring, and stewardship
* Build strong relationships with internal and external partners, including PCNs and system stakeholders


About us

STHC is a valued system partner, bringing together general practices across South Tyneside to deliver services at scale. We employ over 100 clinical and nonclinical staff and deliver four core functions:

* Clinical Service Delivery
* Practice Management
* Primary Care Network Hosting
* Business Services

We directly manage two general practices one in the beautiful coastal village of Whitburn and another in central Jarrow, a developing training practice with a combined list size of around 8,500 patients. We also host three PCNs and deliver a range of primary care services including mental health, spirometry, Covid vaccinations, Admiral Nursing, and Health & Wellbeing outreach.


Job responsibilities

You will be an experienced leader with a strongunderstanding of general practice, primary care operations, or healthcareservice management. Youll bring strategic insight, operational confidence, anda collaborative approach to leadership. Above all, youll be committed todelivering excellent patient care and supporting sustainable, highperformingservices.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* A good standard of education with excellent literacy and numeracy skills
* Educated to degree level in healthcare or business
* Or 3 years equivalent experience
* Level 5 qualification in Primary Care and Health Management)


Experience

* Experience of managing multidisciplinary teams
* Experience of working with the members of the public
* Experience of working in a healthcare setting
* 3 years+ experience managing a general practice
* Experience of people management, including appraisals staff development, coaching and mentoring, team building and performance management
* Experience of successfully developing and implementing projects
* Understanding and implementation and monitoring of Health and Safety requirements
* Understand basic HR principles and experience of working to robust polices
* Experience of health and safety requirements and needs within a small business duplicated with above
* Experience of chairing meetings, producing agendas and minutes
* Experience of financial and budget management


Knowledge and Skills

* Excellent communication skills (written, oral and presenting)
* Proven leadership skills
* Competent in the use of MS Office products
* Ability to prioritise, delegate and work to tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment
* Problem solver with the ability to process information accurately and effectively, interpreting data as required
* Self managing with ability to use own initiative, discretion, and sensitivity
* Ability to get along with people from all backgrounds and communities, respecting lifestyles and diversity
* Ability to work as a team member and autonomously
