The role
SEMH Teacher – SEMH Schools, APs & PRUs
Bristol & South Gloucestershire
£150 - £235
Connex Education is currently recruiting passionate and resilient SEMH Teachers to work across a range of specialist provisions in the Bristol area, including Alternative Provisions (APs), SEMH schools and PRUs.
We are welcoming applications from Primary and Secondary trained teachers (including ECTs!) – all subjects considered, including core, foundation and specialist subject backgrounds.
This is a fantastic opportunity to make a genuine impact supporting learners who require a highly nurturing, structured and therapeutic approach to education.
About the Role
As an SEMH Teacher working with Connex Education, you will:
Deliver engaging, differentiated lessons across your subject specialism or general curriculum
Support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs to access learning in a safe and consistent environment
Work closely with support staff, pastoral teams and wider multi-agency professionals
Implement behaviour strategies and trauma-informed approaches
Help pupils re-engage with education and build confidence, resilience and positive relationships
Adapt learning to meet individual EHCP targets and personalised learning plans
How SEMH Pupils May Present
Learners within SEMH settings often require highly skilled, patient and consistent support. Pupils may present with a wide range of needs and behaviours, including:
Emotional dysregulation, including sudden changes in mood or difficulty managing frustration
Anxiety, low self-esteem, or school-based avoidance behaviours
Challenging behaviour, including verbal outbursts, disengagement, or shutdown responses
Difficulties forming and maintaining trusting relationships with adults and peers
Trauma-related responses, including hypervigilance or withdrawal
Gaps in learning due to disrupted education or previous exclusion
Need for strong boundaries, routine and predictable structure to feel safe and regulated
Success in these environments is built on consistency, calm authority, empathy and relational practice, helping pupils feel safe enough to learn and re-engage.
