In the top 12% of schools nationally, Crown Hills Community College blends a 70-year history of inclusive education with an innovative, forward-looking approach to providing a unique education to 1500 students from inner city backgrounds.
The school now seeks to appoint an exceptional individual to work alongside 200 other staff to make up our education family. Specifically, we are looking for a Bi-lingual Teaching Assistant, preferably fluent in one of the languages spoken at CHCC, to work as part of the English as an Additional Language (EAL) department.
You would join a well-established EAL department comprising the Head of Department, 3 EAL Specialist teachers (one full-time and two part-time), and a team of 3 Bi-lingual Teaching Assistants. Currently, 77% of students speak a language other than English as their first language. Of these, 15% are known as International New Arrivals (INA), having been in the UK for less than three years at the time of admission.
Over the past three years, the school has undergone significant changes in both performance and operation. We do not focus on OFSTED grades or judgments, nor do we use them to threaten staff or set policy. Our priority is doing what is best for staff and students, guided by clear values. We encourage you to visit our website and watch our video to understand what we stand for and why you might want to join us.
Our goal is to be at the forefront of educational excellence, providing the best possible educational experience for our children. Despite challenges such as increasing accountability and limited resources, we believe that staying true to our values will enable us to succeed.
After extensive consultation, we have identified ASPIRATION, COMMITMENT, and SUCCESS as the three key drivers supporting our pupils' development.
We believe the curriculum is paramount; its sequencing helps students progress. We emphasize knowledge-first teaching, memory recall, and responsive teaching. To succeed here, you need to buy into this pedagogy, as it underpins our philosophy and curriculum delivery. As support staff supporting curriculum delivery, understanding and aligning with our college principles is essential.
We are committed to ensuring that a child's gender, background, race, poverty, wealth, or social status does not influence their performance. Our staff work diligently to close gaps between different groups of pupils.
Please read the attached job description and person specification.
