Personal Care Assistant for a young man F/T at £13.50/hr in Stanley - FTE - £26.3k.
We are seeking a kind and reliable personal assistant to provide exceptional care for a 25-year-old man with complex medical and physical needs. He has been diagnosed with cerebral palsy (dystonic and spastic type), requiring the use of a gastrostomy tube for feeding, and experiences epilepsy, complex suctioning needs, obstructed airway apnea (Cpap overnight), and requires specialized seating and equipment for optimal positioning and pressure management.
Responsibilities:
* Assisting with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, toileting, etc.)
* Providing nutritional support through the gastrostomy tube
* Performing airway suctioning as needed. This suctioning can be life threatening.
* Monitoring vital signs and reporting any concerns to the healthcare team
* Implementing positioning strategies and adjustments in the specialized seating system and sleep system
* Ensuring adequate hydration
* Driving client's own large van (manual) to day centre, community and social outings
* Engaging in leisure activities and social interaction,
* Offering emotional support and companionship
* Preparing and administering medication
* Participating in therapy sessions which also includes hydrotherapy
Qualifications:
* Experience caring for individuals with complex medical needs, including cerebral palsy
* Familiarity with gastrostomy tube feeding and airway suctioning techniques
* Strong understanding of positioning and pressure management principles
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, spoken, written and understanding
* Compassionate, patient, and reliable
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Positive attitude and a commitment to providing quality care
* Very confident manual driver with at least a year’s local driving experience.
