Role
We are recruiting for an Out of School Childcare Leader to join our Out of School Childcare team. The post holder will lead and deliver a programme of Ofsted‑registered Breakfast and After School Clubs, offering a range of free play opportunities as well as structured programmes. They will lead a team of playworkers and volunteers to ensure the service provided is of high quality and appropriate for the varying children who attend.
This role requires a Level 2/3 qualification in childcare, play work or equivalent, or willingness to undertake this level of training upon employment. Applicants must have a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a childcare setting.
Working Hours: 25 hours per week, Monday‑Friday 7.15 am to 9 am and 2.45 pm to 6 pm (Term time only, optional role in holidays). Applications can be considered as a mixture of a job share for doing Breakfast and After School Clubs or just doing Breakfast Club only or After School Club only.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the delivery of St Joseph’s Breakfast and After School Club.
Work with individual children to offer a range of free play opportunities, as well as structured social, play and leisure activities to children of varying ages and needs.
Build trusting relationships with parents and families, ensuring correct information about children and that they are collected by authorised people only.
Keep parents and carers informed of incidents/accidents or other issues relating to their children.
Work with the Out of School Childcare team to promote YMCA schemes so attendance figures reach agreed targets in line with budgets, including sending weekly photos of children with appropriate consent.
Ensure all practices within the setting adhere to the Safeguarding Children policy and meet OFSTED requirements, to provide a safe high‑standard service.
Be responsible for the health and safety of children attending all sessions, including carrying out risk assessments and ensuring daily completion of risk assessment checklists.
Ensure resources are well looked after and inform the OOSC Senior Coordinator if extra resources are required.
Ensure appropriate care plans and risk assessments are carried out for children with additional needs and those on the EYFS register.
Administer First Aid for children who have had an accident, and medication for children with health issues, ensuring appropriate training has been completed beforehand.
Ensure all children and young people feel valued and enabled to develop and improve self‑esteem, self‑confidence and positive experiences.
Lead a team of playworkers and volunteers, ensuring the service provided meets high quality standards and is appropriate for the children who attend.
Act as the responsible person in charge of the setting when the OSCC Senior Coordinator is unavailable.
Be flexible to meet service needs, including working at other Y‑Kids After‑school clubs to help provide cover.
Undertake any other duties reasonably requested by the OOSC Senior Coordinator and/or Childcare and Children’s Activities Senior Manager.
Pay
£14.33 per hour (+ rolled up annual leave)
Hours of Work
25 hours per week, Monday to Friday from 7.15 am to 9 am and 2.45 pm to 6 pm each day Term Time for 39 weeks per year
