We are currently looking to recruit highly motivated Healthcare Support Workers to join our team on Colne Ward.
Colne Ward is an 8 bedded male Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit.

Main Duties
In your role as a Healthcare Support Worker you will be actively engaging people in Hillingdon with acute mental health problems in practical and recovery focused support.
We offer scope for personal and professional development within a friendly and supported environment. Experience in mental health is desirable but not essential.
You will need to be prepared to work rotational shift patterns to include early, late and night shifts as these are integral to this post.
Appointees are also signed up to our internal bank which offers competitive rates and weekly pay.
Visits to the unit are encouraged.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
* Participate directly in the delivery of care to a group of patients as delegated by the nurse in charge.
* Assist patients with daily living skills, e.g. personal hygiene, dietary needs, fluid intake etc.
* Participate in the observation of patients as indicated in the observation and seclusion policy.
* Report verbally to the nurse in charge any changes of behaviour, mental state, physical state and the general wellbeing of patients within the ward environment. Use own initiative to provide a safe environment
* Record electronically or in writing as required the progress and presentation of allocated patients during a span of duty. Responsible for ensuring this activity is validated by a qualified nurse.
* Participate as required in group therapies or activities under the supervision of a qualified nurse or occupational therapist. Organise low key activities to meet identified patient need.
* Carry out escort duties to other departments and areas as indicated by the nurse in charge.
* Carry out other appropriate duties within personal capabilities, as specified by a senior e.g. recording temperature, pulse and respirations.
* Demonstrate the ability to organise and prioritise duties based on individuals presentation
* To have an awareness of local Mental Health Service Provisions

Qualification
Essential criteria
* Spoken and written English, to an appropriate standard to fulfil the job requirements
* Numeracy and Literacy skills required to keep accurate records and administer medicines (if appropriate)
Desirable criteria – Qualification
* Relevant Level 3 qualification -eg. advanced apprenticeship, A-levels, T-levels, NVQ
* Care Certificate – you will be supported to complete this within 3 months of starting if not achieved elsewhere
Experience
Essential criteria
* Previous experience of working with a multidisciplinary team
* Experience of working with the general public communicating with a range of different people
* Previous experience of working in a fast-paced environment
* Previous experience of working within a customer focused environment
Desirable criteria – Experience
* Healthcare/NHS or similar experience in community or hospital settings
* Volunteer sector
* Experience in a caring role
* Previous experience in mental health setting or working with adults suffering from mental health problems
Skills And Abilities
Essential criteria
* Able to communicate with the multi-disciplinary team, update others in the team and use handover effectively. Speaking face to face but also by telephone.
* Maintaining accurate, timely, concise and legible clinical records both electronic and handwritten which adhere to the CNWL policies
* Able to maintain electronic patient records Use Microsoft Word to draft letters and reports
* Able to work under your own initiative but follow the directions of care plans and Band 4 staff or registered Nurses
* Obtain consent and understand how the Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards impacts on your work and the people you are working with
Desirable criteria – Skills And Abilities
* Basic knowledge and understanding of the Mental Health Act 1983.

* Understand the need for confidentiality
* Understands the importance and is willing and sensitive in assisting individuals with self care and care of the environment.
