Overview

We are looking for an Accounts Assistant Apprentice who has good organisational and time-management skills with the ability to work to a high level of accuracy and wants a career in accountancy. You will be fully trained in all aspects of bookkeeping and supported throughout the apprenticeship programme.

Wage£14,722.50 a year

Hours Monday - Friday, 9.00am - 5.00pm. 37 hours 30 minutes a week

Start date Wednesday 26 November 2025

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. Youll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.


What youll do at work

The job role is to support a vibrant team of accountants. The team are providing detailed, timely and accurate financial and non-financial data to their clients, in order to assist their clients businesses to perform better and to mitigate their taxes.

You will largely be working on bookkeeping, VAT and accounts preparation projects but will also assist in some of the day to day functions that are essential to keeping the office running smoothly.

As an Accounts Assistant Apprentice, your duties will include, but not be limited to:

* Learning, processing, and using administrative systems
* Filing records in Virtual Cabinet
* Sending checklists requesting information from clients
* Preparing financial information for client working papers
* Reconciling books and records
* Posting adjustments
* Preparing VAT returns and Personal Tax Returns

What youll learn

* Assist with the investigation and response to financial information queries.
* Record and analyse financial data using the organisations standard tools and processes.
* Apply double entry bookkeeping and accounting standards to process financial documents, generate financial statements and report financial information to users of accounts.
* Assist with production of accurate financial information for the preparation of accounts.
* Reconcile financial data, such as, preparation of reconciliations or review of reconciliations.
* Investigate, resolve or escalate transactional queries and errors within their remit as appropriate.
* Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
* Communicate financial information in a way that non-finance stakeholders can interpret and understand.
* Utilise digital skills to present key financial information using finance and accounting software and applications.
* Use software packages to assist with basic accounting tasks in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.
* Communicate using varying approaches and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.

Training schedule

Assistant Accountant Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard:

* Training will be one day a week and we provide flexible options of classroom training in our offices in Hertfordshire, as well as Live online learning options
* We provide full support with a work coach to ensure you have a positive and successful experience on the apprenticeship programme


Requirements

Essential qualifications

* GCSE in English (grade 4)
* GCSE in Maths (grade 4)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
