Purpose & Scope of the Role
You will own projects from feasibility through to construction support, ensuring compliance with UK 139, ICAO, and EASA standards. Acting as the primary point of contact for airport operators and contractors, you will manage design programmes, coordinate multidisciplinary inputs, deliver high‑quality outputs, and contribute to business development.
Technical Expertise & Knowledge
Strong technical competence in runway and taxiway design, pavement rehabilitation, and drainage integration is required. Proficiency in DMG 27 pavement design and a solid understanding of UK 139, ICAO, and EASA regulations are essential. You will review and coordinate AGL and electrical design interfaces and assess hydrological assumptions to ensure integrated and operable design solutions.
Stakeholder Management & Engagement
As the primary client liaison, you will lead technical discussions, present design concepts, and translate complex engineering into actionable insights for non‑technical stakeholders. Internally, you will coordinate survey teams, geomatics specialists, and ground investigation inputs, integrating outputs into coherent design packages.
Leadership, Management & Mentoring
You will manage resources across multiple projects, maintain quality standards, and deliver on time. Mentoring junior engineers and technicians, you will provide technical guidance, professional development, and chartership progression support while fostering knowledge sharing and digital design tool adoption.
Commercial Awareness
Contribute to fee proposals, scopes, and design programmes. Monitor scope, manage change control, and identify opportunities for additional services or cross‑selling. Maintain profitability while delivering value and certainty to clients.
Project Delivery & Report Writing
Manage projects through all stages, coordinating civil, AGL, and drainage interfaces. Draft technical reports (e.g., pavement design summaries, drainage strategies, construction staging plans, risk assessments) that are structured, logically sequenced, and tailored to client requirements.
Training, Qualifications & Experience
Chartered or Incorporated Engineer with ICE, or equivalent experience. Extensive airfield civil engineering experience, multidisciplinary project delivery, and a track record of managing complex projects and building strong client relationships are preferred.
