What You Can Expect from Our Career Pathway
Grade 8 – Assistant Estates Surveyor
If you have graduated from a RICS‑accredited programme and have a good level of post degree experience, we’ll help you build the strong technical foundation needed to become an effective chartered surveyor.
You’ll gain hands‑on experience across a wide range of estates work includingvaluation, acquisitions, disposals and general estates management activity with guidance and professional support.
Grade 9 – Estates Surveyor
As a chartered surveyor with growing experience, you’ll step into a key professional role, delivering a broad range of property work independently.
You’ll manage your own cases, influence stakeholders, support major capital and regeneration schemes, and provide expert advice to services across the council.
Grade 10 – Senior Estates Surveyor
At this level, you’ll become a senior professional and trusted adviser leading complex projects, mentoring colleagues, and acting as an area lead or subject matter expert.
From major land acquisitions and compulsory purchase matters to commercial development and estates strategy.
About Our Estates Surveying Team
Across all levels, you’ll work on diverse, high‑impact and meaningful projects, including:
1. Valuations, lease management and estate optimisation
2. Acquisitions and disposals across a varied and extensive property portfolio
3. Supporting regeneration, capital programmes and major infrastructure schemes
4. Working on transport and highway projects, including Compulsory Purchase Orders
5. Advising internal services and elected members on complex land and property matters
6. Managing and developing assets such as our commercial business parks
What We’re Looking For
We welcome applicants at Grades 8–10. It is essential that you hold a degree from a RICS‑accredited programme in Commercial Estates Surveying, and that you are either working towards, or already hold, MRICS/FRICS status.
Progression through the pathway will take place once set criteria are achieved, including gaining chartered status (MRICS).
Our ideal candidate will also be:
7. motivated to progress and develop professionally
8. an effective communicator and strong relationship builder
9. skilled in analysis, valuation and problem solving
10. knowledgeable about acquisitions and disposals, landlord and tenant matters, and road schemes including compulsory purchase (particularly for candidates entering at higher grades)
You will need access to a vehicle for business use, although reasonable adjustments will be considered for applicants unable to drive due to disability.
