North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Trust and South Tees Hospitals NHS Trust have collaborated to form a group Structure known as University Hospital Tees. Within this structure the pathology departments have been working together to create the Tees Valley Pathology Service with the development of a central processing hub on the James Cook site and two Essential Service Labs (ESL) on the North Tees (NTH) and Friarage (FHN) hospital sites which will support acute and clinically urgent work as appropriate.

We are actively seeking suitable candidates who will complement and develop existing services, in conjunction with our established team of Chemical Pathologists and Consultant Clinical Scientists. We anticipate that this post will be primarily based at NTH once our future accommodation plans are completed later this year, but acknowledge that support will be required across all of our sites as appropriate

Main duties of the job

The post holder will provide clinical advice and perform interpretation of biochemistry laboratory results and final authorisation of patient reports for both primary and secondary care users.

Assist the consultant and clinical scientist team in the development of the biochemistry service across the trust liaising with acute and primary care clinicians in the development of new policies and procedures which impact service users and patient care

Provide guidance to laboratory personnel to help resolve technical /analytical problems

Will be responsible for maintaining and improving scientific standards within Clinical Chemistry across Tees Valley Pathology and maintain the quality of the service to the (ISO) standards set nationally by UKAS.

A procurement exercise to replace the current LIMS is currently underway with other neighbouring trusts within the region and it is envisaged all staff will have a role as we replace this over the next 12 - 18 months

Participation in the on call out of hours Clinical Chemistry service for Tees Valley Pathology

This role may involve work clinically leading Point of Care Testing. This role may be rotated around Consultant staff members.

The role may involve supporting consultant colleagues in the delivery of the the Lipid service
