Due to the ongoing growth of the school, we’re currently looking for a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant to join our primary provision. You will be working closely with a small number of class teams and the other therapists to create an enabling environment and supporting students to actively engage with their social and academic environment.
Part of the Aurora Group, Aurora White House School in Quidenham, Norwich provides day placements for students aged 5 to years primarily with communication and interaction difficulties or specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia. Some may be on the autistic spectrum or have anxieties and difficulties that create barriers to learning.
With small classes, a maximum of students and a minimum of 3 staff per class you can focus on the needs of each student. There is a full clinical team onsite to support at all times and you will have the support of an experienced and stable SLT.

Main Purpose of the Role:
To assist the Speech and Language Therapist in providing speech and language therapy services, covering speech, language and social communication, to children and young people, working in a way that puts their health, safety and welfare first. The main focus of this role will be to support the implementation of speech, language and communication support and therapy programmes in specific primary classes (Key stage 1).
Key Duties
1. Assist the Speech and Language Therapist and class team(s) in creating a communication friendly and enabling environment.
2. Implementing therapy programmes in class(es) as directed by the Speech and Language Therapist and wider clinical and SEN team.
3. Together with the class team(s) supporting students to access their social and academic environment.
4. Liaise with colleagues and external professionals involved with the children to ensure that speech and language interventions are aligned to all plans for the child and that all issues and progress are effectively communicated onwards.
5. Research, advise on and source, or prepare and make, equipment and materials which contribute to the efficient delivery of speech and language services.
6. Under direction of senior clinical team members, prepare training materials and / or provide training to staff in communication and other speech and language techniques and methods as appropriate and as required.
7. Administrative duties as assigned by senior clinical team members and clinical lead.

Qualifications
8. GCSE Maths and English Language qualification minimum Grade 4 or equivalent is essential.
Essential
9. Interest in language and communication difficulties
10. Commitment to and experience of supporting children and young people with a variety of communication needs
11. Skills in working with pupils with special needs.
12. Confidence in own communication skills, and ability to guide and motivate other staff.
13. Personal organisation skills, capacity and flexibility for large and varied workload
14. Competence and confidence in computer literacy skills
15. Knowledge of and / or experience of Intensive Interaction, PECS, Alternative of Augmentative Communication systems, Attention Autism, Zones of Regulation
16. Experience of creating visual resources such as social stories, visual timetables
Desirable
17. Previous study in related area
18. Experience in managing others and organising resource materials.
19. Innovative and practical skills.
20. Training in Intensive Interaction, PECS, Attention Autism or other relevant training
21. Completed ELKLAN training
