About Development Officer (Initially 12 Months)

This is an exciting opportunity for a Development Officer, who would like to support us to work with communities, organisations and partners to deliver our Physical Activity Framework and support our vision of Leicestershire, Leicester & Rutland: a place where physical activity is part of daily life, leading to people living healthier and happier lives.

Physical activity isn't a nice to have, it is essential to support people to live healthier and happier lives. Where a person lives and the environment around them has a huge impact on how likely communities are to be physically active.

We know that within Leicestershire, Leicester & Rutland there are many individual places and communities with their own unique characteristics and challenges. As a partnership, we seek to recognise and respond to the needs of our places, and we work with local places to find local solutions to support communities to be physically active.

About the Role

This post will lead and focus on reducing inactivity within our places, supporting us to work with our communities to understand the barriers that exist, the needs of the community and support change to encourage our residents to move more. The post will also support us to work with our system partners, helping them to consider their role and how they facilitate physical activity in their local places.

Examples of projects (although not a definitive list):

* Developing a universal and targeted approach to raise physical activity in low participating groups and settings.
* Raise awareness of the health and wellbeing benefits of physical activity to partners, settings and communities
* Supporting wider sector professionals and groups to embed physical activity into their settings/programmes/policies and have conversations about the benefits of physical activity.
* Support the development and delivery of relevant local and national physical activity campaigns/programmes to reduce inactivity and increase participation.
* Encouraging everyone to embed regular, informal physical activity opportunities into their daily lives.
* Address the equality, diversity and inclusion challenges that are prevalent in physical activity provision.
* Make a positive difference to the physical activity levels in our Places and Communities.

About You

To apply for this post, you must have:

* BTEC Higher/NVQ 4 or degree in a relevant area or substantial experience in the areas below and ongoing continuing professional development.
* Proven experience in physical activity, health, sport and/or community development and managing large scale associated projects, initiatives and programmes.
* Working with under-represented groups / communities to tackle inequalities (both to address participation levels and improve health and wellbeing)
* Working in partnership with a broad range of organisations both within the physical activity sector and non physical activity partners.
* Physical Activity, health (Public Health, Primary / Secondary Care, Integrated Care Systems) and Sport (National, regional and local plans/policies), including Physical Activity, Sport and health development processes and national direction

You must also have an understanding of, and commitment to, equality, diversity and inclusion.

In addition, we expect you to share our commitment to our values and will ask you to evidence when you have demonstrated them as part of the interview process.

Reasonable adjustments will be considered for applicants with a disability.

Interested in Flexible Working?

We are keen to support employees to balance their working life with other commitments. Therefore, wherever possible, we will consider working arrangements that suit a individual's personal circumstances whilst still meeting the needs of the Council. If you would like to discuss the possible flexible working options that might be applicable to this role, please contact the person named below. This may include requests for term-time working, part-time hours, compressed hours, flexible start and finish times, home/remote working etc.

Every role within the Council has a defined working style which determines where they can work. The worker category applicable to this post is detailed in the above advert. You can find out more about our worker categories in the Our Working Styles page on our career site.

How to Apply

We are hosted by Leicestershire County Council which is an inclusive organisation which is on a journey to embed and celebrate equality, diversity and inclusion at every level. We warmly welcome and encourage applications from people of all backgrounds, as having a diverse workforce with different perspectives and ideas is fundamental to our values and enriches the services, we offer our communities. We particularly welcome applicants from Ethnically Diverse and LGBTQ+ communities and people with disabilities to create a balanced workforce and one that reflects the communities we serve. Applicants with a disability who meet the criteria listed in the 'About You' section above will be offered an interview under the Disability Confident Employer Scheme.
