Portering & Transport Supervisor – Band 4

We are seeking a proactive Portering & Transport Supervisor to lead our team in delivering a high quality, efficient and customer focused service across the Trust. Based at Fieldhead Hospital, with work across other sites as required, you will coordinate daily operations, manage changing priorities and ensure services run safely and smoothly.
In this multi-disciplined role, you will oversee essential functions including goods movement, deliveries, collections and wider facilities support. You will lead by example, develop staff and maintain a safe, timely and professional service.

Main duties of the job
The successful post holder will be responsible for the development and provision of an effective, efficient, and well-coordinated Porter/Transport support service to the Trust and also to other NHS service users through Service Level Agreement and formal contracts.
The job role will include:
* Developing and maintaining an efficient, professional portering and transport service
* Line managing Drivers and Porters, including staff support, development, 1:1s and appraisals
* Managing staff rotas to ensure full service coverage and liaising with stakeholders Trust-wide
* Identifying and implementing service improvements
* Managing a small fleet of vehicles, ensuring legal and safety compliance and overseeing maintenance
* Ensuring all staff training is current and recorded

JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for the development and provision of an effective, efficient and well-coordinated Porter/Transport support service to the Trust and also to other NHS service users through Service Level Agreement and formal contracts.

KEY RESULT AREAS:
* Review service and implement new methods of service delivery to ensure a cost-effective quality service provision to both clients and staff.
* Lead and motivate this highly reactive support service, where teamwork and communication are essential.
* Manage, motivate and empower a team of well-trained staff, receptive to change and dedicated to achieving Trust performance targets through SLAs and formal contracts.
* Carry out staff appraisals, develop and implement Personal Development Plans for team members.
* Provide Senior Managers with submissions for service developments and assist with long and short term business plans.
* Act as primary point of contact for Porter/Transport Services and liaise with Service users within the Trust and other local NHS organisations.
* Develop and maintain effective communication links with other Heads of Department.
* Encourage and develop a culture of excellent customer service and promote a professional and caring image.
* Implement risk assessments associated with the service and communicate outcomes to relevant staff.
* Manage the financial budget of the Services in compliance with Trust financial procedures, raising requisitions and authorising payments.
* Responsible for relevant Health and Safety matters associated with the Transport/Porter service, ensuring effective provision of staff awareness and training.
* Prepare and manage local Health and Safety Plans in line with Trust Health and Safety Policies, Legislation and Statutes.
* Manage the waste compound, ensuring all types of waste are removed and recorded in compliance with legislation (Hazardous Waste Regulations).
* Develop and implement effective waste segregation and minimisation arrangements throughout the Trust, maintaining detailed information and reporting on Waste Management Performance.
* Contribute to Business Continuity Plans.
* Assist in the development of Green Travel Plan.
* Manage the Taxi Contract.
* Provide a transport service in accordance with Trust Transport Policy, Transportation of Dangerous Goods.
* Ensure all documentation relating to Carriage of Dangerous Goods is monitored.

Qualifications
* ILM Management certificate level 3 or equivalent.
* NHS experience.
* IOSH Certificate.
* EDCL.
Training
* Knowledge of Hazardous Waste Regulations.
* Knowledge of Carriage of Dangerous Goods legislation.
Experience
* Demonstratable experience in managing service budgets, including staffing, purchasing goods and supplies.
* Substantial demonstrable supervisory experience in specialised facilities service.
* Substantial demonstrable experience managing Health & Safety for a service or department.
* Experience of managing business change.
* Experience in utilising Microsoft packages and other IT programmes.
